Od course, because Trayvon “looks like what my son would’ve looked like” while Chris Lane is just some white college student who got shot in the back while jogging by some “disadvantaged, confused black kids”……I’m not holding my breath for Barry, Jesse or Al Sharpton to be holding protests anytime soon.
It tragically was bad teenagers with guns involved in Lane’s murder. Conveniently, some call them all blacks when one of the teenagers involved is clearly white.
The difference is that the police didn’t care that Martin was shot while the people who shot Lane were arrested almost immediately. Black people get arrested, white people get to walk.
And Zimmerman was the aggressor by stalking Martin. Martin merely attempted to stand his ground. You can’t attack someone and, when they try to defend themselves, claim self defense in killing them.
And in all the uproar on this thread, no one but Harleyquinn mentioned the NRA, and his/her contribution spoke about how the kids could have learned something about gun safety.
Silliness. As if any of those three people would have cared at all about safety; their desire was to cause harm.
I could care less about the races involved. The fact remains that anyone who just wants to see what it looks like to see someone die can get a gun and do just that. If the victim had been armed, it would have made absolutely no difference. Chew on that one for a while, Mr. LaPierre.
Again, if the NRA was truly interested in gun safety, they would be working to help reduce gun violence.
I am reminded of a most prescient Doonesbury cartoon from 1979. BD, the character representing conservatives, walked into the kitchen to gloat that there was no way that Carter would beat Reagan. He told the others that they should all make plans to accept a Reagan presidency. After a blank panel to indicate people thinking, Zonker says to Mike, “I think I’ll shoot myself.” To which Mike replied, “Good choice. Handguns should be cheap and plentiful.”
Boy, some people are just so DUMB, including this cartoonist. A couple of teenagers cannot be compared to an adult who should know better. The teenagers couldn’t even be tried as adults because… they aren’t! The adult who killed Trayvon didn’t do it for “fun”, he did it because he is a bigoted man who was looking to throw his weight around.
Hey MrSmee, George Z is no bigot or racist, long before the Trayvon shooting he defended a homeless BLACK man from a white cop who also happened to be the son of the police chief. Trayvon was beating GZ’s head into the ground.
If GZ was black, and TM was Hispanic and the exact same thing happened would you be championing G or T? .Or what if one of them was Asian, and the other Italian? Who would you be championing then?
Oh by the way those teens who shot the jogger were old enough to know better, they shot him because they were bored and thought it would be fun. And frankly I don’t care who was what color, race, or whatever. Those punks knew better, and if they didn’t their parents didn’t do their jobs correctly.
Should Mr. Obama apologize to Australia & Mr. Lane’s friends and family for the USA failing to protect him from young people who should not have had a gun in the first place? Perhaps if Mr. Obama’s white heritage was more pronounced and Mr. Obama was ‘white’ as opposed to black, he could tell us that it could have been him shot 35 years ago, but to what end. And according to what the 15 year old shooter has tweeted, it was a racially motivated.^http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/21/justice/australia-student-killed-oklahoma^There is no comparison with the Martin case except that a gun was involved. I believe Mr. Obama did a good thing for young black men who feel the world is watching them suspiciously, and another good thing to let white people know that good and honorable black men feel as if their nation fears them.Sadly, Mr. Lane’s murder by these seeming sociopaths will only make such suspicions worse. The media spends way too much time dividing us, neighbor. I’ve seen some good posts from you on that topic.Thanks,Respectfully,C.
You make some good points. I understand that the NRA does care about legal gun ownership. I just wish they would care about finding ways to stop illegal gun ownership.
And your second answer is hypothetical. Although they may have decided to choose another victim, they may also have decided that it would be more thrilling to kill an armed man. Who’s to know? But I see your point, and it’s valid.
Regarding Martin and Zimmerman: I have no opinion. There is only one witness still alive, and the verdict has been announced. Regardless of what anyone thinks they know, they don’t; they weren’t there.
Good point. However, we have to agree that their lobbying has tremendous influence over gun laws and their interpretations. They could help to answer their own question: “Why aren’t we enforcing the laws already on the books?”, because we clearly are not. And they could put pressure on Congress to actually place a full-time person in charge of ATF, and discourage laws that are put into place to reduce communication between law enforcement and ATF. The idea of arming everyone except the ones on a Lunatic List (whose origins will have to be quite suspect) is specious and self-serving.
And just like many posters wonder why the peaceful Muslims don’t condemn the carnage caused by radical Islamists, why doesn’t the NRA publicly condemn acts such as the ones we’ve been discussing, and work to find ways to reduce the chances for senseless carnage?
The only answer I see is that they just don’t want to; they evidently feel that this is just a necessary side effect of “protecting the second amendment”. Many people will accept that. I don’t. Again, this does not make me correct.
I respect your position and will hope Mr. Obama says something in the next few days. Didn’t it take him a little while before he said anything? However…I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen. ^If he does, he may use it in conjunction with the story of the young man who entered a ‘secured’ school in order to push the gun control agenda. If I was a politician, I would. But then, if I was a politician, I’d probably be a…uhm… a…hmmmm…a…ahhh….I don’t think I could be a politician.^I disagree with you on one other point. Those 10 good things help me cope with the “Aw Nuts” moments. Especially in a life, while better than most, has more “Aw nuts” than good things. But when it’s good, it’s very very good.Hope it’s good for you, but I won’t ask Howgozit. ;)take care, neighbor.C.
