I agree with David to some extent but not entirely. The Patriot act was a bad law – There is no doubt about it. The country was panicked and the Republicans pushed through this law (with the help of many Democrats) to calm down the public.

But both POTUSes used it with very little oversight to extend their reach more and more.

This event has been brewing for many years. This country was founded on the principles of Liberty, Freedom, and an inobtrusive government. But we have given up Freedoms and Liberties time and again to feel safer in our homes and on our streets: The IRS invades our homes every year and asks us to divulge our financial dealings, Every time I go to the airport I have to walk through a metal detector and scan every one of my bags, We don’t like drugs so we stop and search people on the street for no other cause then they look different.

We, The American people need to stand up and be counted as wanting to take our Liberties back and for the government to enforce the constitution. But it isn’t going to happen as long as their are Democrats who want to make sure they can tap into someone else’s earnings to distribute as largess to their voters. And it isn’t going to happen as long as their are Republicans that want to be able to sit in the abortion clinic while a pregnant woman and a doctor discuss HER options.

First we need to Wean Americans off the NEED to enforce their will on their neighbors so that they can feel safer. Then we need to Wean the congress and the president.

You forgot Obama and the Democrat controlled congress for presenting and approving the Patriot act before the President signed it.

These partisan comments for this comic just demonstrate a considerable lack of understanding that BOTH Team Red AND Team Blue like and want this. It doesn’t matter if Bush/Cheney started it (which I opposed), or that Obama/Holder continue it (which I also oppose). The timing of comments now is because the actual extent of what’s being done has only recently been made public. Top Men want to control everything, and Top Men really don’t care which party is in power.

Anyone else get the feeling these embassy closings this month are an attempt to take focus off the surveillance? Make us either forget it or appreciate it?

I rather suspect that the embassy closings were prompted by NSA which is desperate to create crisis to justify its spying.

As long as we have power hungry, career politicians, and a populace that puts them on a pedestal our freedoms have about the same chance as a sheep in a wolf convention.Stop worshipping these people based on the R or D at the end of their names. Be willing to look at the flaws of all of them.
