Anyone who makes any effort at all to investigate what Catholics actually believe about statues would understand that they don’t worship or pray to them. Statues, or other forms of religious art, are intended to help create a prayerful atmosphere by raising a person’s mind to spiritual matters.
During the civil rights movements the Klan was just as likly to go after Jews and Catholics as blacks. I know b/c my youth group organizer in Mississippi had the FBI stationed across the street from her house for 4 years thanks to all the death threats.
