Another Democrat promise of everything to everybody, all for “free”, until it isn’t.

Thank you for your kind consideration, but California itself is doing far better under Jerry Brown, than it was doing under Arnold Schwarzenegger!

This is a very widespread problem. People are living longer and having fewer kids. Not just in America, but over the majority of Europe too. However, if we extend immigration we will get a boost to the working population that can afford to pay for pensions.

The immigrants I see are the ones doing the work.

There is a problem in America of people wanting free stuff – wars at $2 billion per week and 800 foreign military base to extend the empire are the biggest offenders. If people want this stuff, they are going to have to pay higher taxes, and it is the people with the money who are able to pay who will protest the loudest. ergo – It is the rich who want free stuff.

Good thing the moronic simpletons have the unions to blame or else they might have to see the real problems, some of those being corporate welfare and people who pay to little or no taxes.

“No matter what the business is, we wind up paying.”

Oddly, when corporations did pay taxes, and when the wealthy paid taxes, everybody in the country was better off.

As soon as deregulation was nicely in place, the Propaganda Machine started pumping out the opinion you just expressed. Those of us who remember know better.

You can only have equality and justice for all if all pay their share.

A decent question. But, at least Obama’s response is much more measured and with other nation’s participation than with previous administration’s responses. .You, yourself just finished calling the situation in Egypt “the latest Egyptian revolution.”

Does anyone remember King Ronnie and his administration who said it was alright to raid pension funds to increase corporate profits? I thought not.

A key thing about unfunded pensions is that it relies on a growing population. California has seen about 400k population growth for the past 2 years, Detroit has not, it got stuck in a downward population spiral accelerated by deteriorating home values

Back in ‘76-78, noted Michigan license plates in Phoenix started to nearly outnumber Arizona plates. Those folks then moved to Arizona, because at the time, the copper industry paid most of the taxes to support schools etc i Az. Then the copper industry crashed, but transplanted Michiganders still didn’t want to pay taxes. The same thing happened, even earlier, to California,, and through the Reagan years, the “don’t tax me, just give me roads, services, schools, and retirement benefits”.

Looking at corporate tax rates vs benefits from the governments (city, county, state, and federal!) Republi-cons claiming unions or “liberals” are the problem is like blaming a tree’s roots for setting off that volcano in Lisa’s ’toon.
