I’d beg to argue if you’re able to read this OL daily you’re part of the 1% of this world that has electricy, clean water, and access to infustructure daily. Are there way too many kids in devoloped countries lacking enough food and shelter? Of course, but how many of those households with kids “below the proverty line” have TVs, smart phones, or cars?

I think watermoon was trying to say that being poor in the USA is a lot better than being poor in the third world. Still doesn’t explain why all economic gains have gone to a tiny group of Americans for the last 40 years. It’s been the same in Merry Olde England.

Split one billion among 1.6 million and you get maybe $750 ea. Not exactly going to wipe out poverty. Besides, England has “free” health care and I am told a magnificent welfare system. Should be the Socialist dream to be poor there.

You are truly deluded. They parasites weren’t “above the poverty line” when they bought all of these items , then “lost” their position. They have no expenses, since they are collecting public funds to pay their living expenses. They spend what they get for free for goodies.
