I think 61 comments on one strip might be a record. We rather did reveal our age with the memories of early TV programmming. I always was an avid student so one of my favourites was “Test Pattern.” It was on every night.
Burl’s is really saying “When I see ‘estate sale’ on the sign I know everything will cost 2 bucks extra so let’s leave…”Good morning, Leaky…. and everybody.And yeah, I’ve heard cartoonists complain because “old people” demand that newspapers don’t drop ancient strips and give new comics a chance….They don’t realise that THEIR audiences are geezers too.We just all have different tastes.
People who watched Topper and My Little Margie as kids also grew up reading newspapers.
We still read the comics, old and new.The Millennium audience that cartoonists THINK would vote them into the newspaper line-up, if only we seniors, with our supposed Mary Worth addiction,would get out of the way, are NOT reading newspaper comics.Or newspapers.Or the printed word.They’re watching YouTube, sending Instagram pictures, using smartphones to access Google hangouts.
And so are some of us.But we also read the comics every day.And sometimes the forums sound like the senior center.LOL.

After 35 years and 3 kids (8 years away at College total plus 3 movebacks) we will be moving within a year. One Rummage sale let us know we’ll get next to nothing for Clothes and most of the other stuff. A camera to document for the IRS and Goodwill, Salvation Army and a Family Shelter will benefit..We tried to force everyone who comes over to take a “bag of stuff” but Family members, the A/C repairman and door to door Religious representatives all declined.
Selling the diaries and photographs seem a bit callus even for Crustwood…. But quite often they might find their way to a fire or to a garbage can…. ! ! !
@Susan, true (and I may be one of the oldest here) but I NEVER liked Mary Worth (I always have preferred the more irreverent/cheeky sort of comedy).
When my parents passed on a lot of their old movies, slides and photos also went – mostly because my crass brother (the lawyer) was in charge). Fortunately I had a large box of old photos that I had borrowed in order to scan them to digital.
Dad liked to document all of their travels, and until mom’s stroke back around 1969 they made one or 2 trips a year, making lots of new friends (with whom he continued to correspond) so many photos were of folks with whom I had no acquaintance. He showed his travel movies and slides for the family and for his Lion’s Club. They kept no diaries, but I still have the autobiography and genealogy of my maternal grandfather (who was a college professor of Latin and Greek taught me to count in Latin to 100 when I was in kindergarten ) and a cousin did a biography and genealogy of his lovely wife. Wedding photo.
I may win the contest about ages. Birthday Jan 1, 1932. And went to an estate sale yesterday. Figure what I bought will be for sale by the same people in about 10 years.
Don’t sell the photographs!! Argh, whenever I see estate or yard sales with photos, I always go and beg them to send the photos to the family genealogist (every family has someone interested in it to some degree) and they are such a horrible loss!
@x-tech — from yesterday. Okay, so the basset hound was from another show — was it one of the ones with Bob Cummings in it? And was Bob Cummings the guy who did ’People’s Choice’? I remember this sad-looking dog sarcastically dragging himself along singing the Dead March when somebody would do something they’d likely get in trouble for or if something bad was about to happen. I guess I’m getting him mixed up with the Topper show’s dog. It was so long ago and I was very young so I only VAGUELY remember watching it in the mornings, and laughing myself silly. I’m getting things all jumbled together, evidently. Thanks for straightening me out on the premise of the Topper show. And here I was thinking that it was TOPPER who was the ghost! ROFL! Shows you just how bad my memory is getting! I sure wish I could find DVDs of some of those old shows!
I never said I was the oldest, but really Leaky??? I always thought I might resemble Fran more than Kukla. Actually most of my life I’ve been compared to Debby Reynolds. It happens less often lately, mostly because people have forgotten her. The last I saw was the grandma in some M4TV Halloween movies.
@Zephyrsue, The ghost was the young couple (and the StB also I think – HAS been years) because they had died. Cosmo Topper was just an old guy who was not taken seriously (so no one thought it strange that he talked to people who “were not there” (and w/o a Bluetooth in his ear).
