taunted with a quote, “That could have been me years ago”
Indeed, Howie, fortunately, American society has moved on such that a black president could be elected. However, your society is still gravely riven with institutionalised racism.
I was first aware of race when I was about 9. By then I had spent two years in Hawaii, two years in Maine, and we were back in North Carolina. I was told not to go near a certain part of the town of about 600 people altogether. It was dangerous over there I was told.We had separate schools, even when we moved to Virginia when I was 15. When I started working at the golf course, that was my first actual dealing with people who had very different values. The black guys played from dawn to dark, and bet hundreds of dollars. But they would try to sneak off without paying greens fees. All of that led to opinions that are hard to shake.
, the not so liberal as claimed in an earlier post, asked, “How come the black guy isn;‘t screaming and doesn’t look like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson?”
Why would he be and why would/should he look like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson?
…and one wonders how some people claim to be liberal and blatantly state racist posts on this forum. Check this dude’s history, see what he says here and here. Talk about disconnect
Kids tend to be horrible to anyone they see as ‘different’. At age 6, they may have picked up some racist attitudes, but if it your son & the other white kids weren’t there, some other kids would have been targeted. I have to wonder why the administrator & others didn’t intervene with the behavior in the first place. The message sent by transferring them, was that the black kids & white kids didn’t belong together.

Confession:
After my first day of kindergarten (44 years ago), my mother asked me whether I enjoyed it, and my response was “I don’t like brown kids.”

I had to leave yesterday because of a thunderstorm but I am glad to see more stories from honest people.
