I suppose this is a poke at Mr. Mickelson’s comments about how he was going to leave CA because of the tax rate there? At least he doesn’t have to ‘work’ for a living. My friends who are golf addicts pay a great deal to play golf, and if they could afford it, would play daily. Mr. Mickelson is a very fortunate man, as are ALL people who earn an income doing what they love to do for fun..That said, in his situation, it would not bother me so much that I was paying high taxes. What WOULD bother me is how inefficiently and wastefully the money is spent because of a lack of oversight and regulation in the state and federal gov’ts.Respectfully,C.

I stand corrected, he won the Scottish Open the week before, so his two weeks winnings were $2,167,500.Scotland gets 44% of that weeks winnings, UK gets 45% of this weeks, and California gets 13.3%= $288,000All told the total tax is 61%.

d_legendary beat me to it… I read that the U.K. tax rate is 61.2% on professional athletes winnings. Which make Cali’s tax rates look cheap

“Reaganomics” = bankruptcy, for the State of California first as “governor”, then as the “acting President”, the whole nation.

Howgoesit PAJ?The cartoon singled out Mickelson. However, there are many who would feel Mr. Mickelson is fortunate to have the skillsets necessary for him to make a very good living playing a game. It’s not like he has to respond to domestic disturbances or teach a room full of children who don’t believe an education is going to be of help. But they are paying higher taxes too, and they don’t have the same profit margin Mr. Mickelson has attained the last few years.I wish him continued good fortune in his sport. It’s rarely fair to use a single person as an example, but it is easy.Be well sir.Respectfully,C.

Skeptical, I think I’m missing the context of your comment. What should gov’ts spend money on?Especially if there is a monopoly on who has the money? In the old westerns, the bad guy was always a rich man who wanted to get richer on the backs of others. They stole land, diverted rivers, etc. And it seems that we still have people with a great deal of money who want to get richer while making people who don’t have such resources become poorer. As Marley said to Scrooge, “PEOPLE should have been my business.”Respectfully,C.

We subsidize the gov’t by giving to United Way groups in order to help people who are in need. How about you, Jeff?Curiously,C.
