My former high school assistant principal is a tattooless Marine (was also at the same time my Mormon Church ward/congregation bishop; I’ve lived in Washington all my life, okay?).

I enlisted in the Marines in 1963. We were told tattoos were forbidden because it would be defacing government property. There weren’t many tattoos back then.

My father served in the Marines in the South Pacific during WW2. Saw a lot of combat. Saw a lot of his friends killed. He never go a tattoo. I think it would have reminded him of things he wanted to forget.
