I’m not sure if this is still true but the chemicals that make up the artificial butter flavor in Twinkies were derived from petroleum.

Good news: welcome back, never-spoil pack of empty calories and sugary goodness. We need to rejoice that another method of destroying our health is again available. Too bad Congress is trying to ensure that there will be no health care available to take care of your diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight-related arthritis.

Can I get a shout-out for Pall Mall unfiltered? Easily just as good for you. Can’t someone bring it back? (I assume it’s long gone, but I could be wrong….)

Good comments. Life is always a little more complicated than one might think.

“Now if you really want to go natural, botulism, salmonella, gangrene, etc., are also natural, so help yourself.”

Not only does your body care about these toxic additives, which it is not biologically engineered to cope with, but the risks you cite are a direct result of our industrial agriculture and food refining practises.

Poison yourself at will, if that is what you wish to do. Just don’t pretend that synthetic food is in any way comparable to natural food.

The food industry wants you to believe all that, of course. They are finally beginning to lose some ground on their stated right to poison us.

“The FDA has been weakened by underfunding and putting corporate honchos in charge of it till it is barely useful.”

I do admire your tact. It’s not only the FDA, it’s also the USDA.

Both agencies are positively riddled with special interests, both industrial and AR.

What that gets us is as prevalence of industrially contaminated foods, and animal protein priced out of reach of many.

We really do need to put an end to lobbying, and also to NPOs. Whatever the intention might have been when these were set up, they have become toxic and destructive.

Isn’t it the road to Hell that’s paved with good intentions ..?

There is nothing so natural and organic as crude oil…. Would you like some on your waffles?

“Play one”: I smoked Pall Mall straights for over 20 years, the ads said it was the length that acted as a “filter”, yep, right. It was those free ciggies in the C rations that got me hooked, now the VA and military are all against smoking.

Which, I quit 16 years ago when my mother in law was told she had only three months to live, we were having coffee and a cigarette together when the call came. I then gained over 20 pounds!

Over the years, gained more weight despite a fairly decent diet, then five months ago started losing, and have lost 35 pounds. Blood glucose down in normal range, feeling much better, more physically active, and even doing better most days on neurological/physical disabling conditions.

The ’toon does depict accuracy to a great extent. At least though obese, the guy is at least walking somewhere, instead of driving right to the door of the market and parking in a van accessible spot to avoid walking!

What it comes down to.. is if you don’t like em, don’t eat em..And get off your high horse, cause everybody has something they indulge in that isn’t “healthy”..
