Addressed this under Alacraz and Arial. A jury of our peers spent 16 hours looking at the evidence as presented. The civil case will follow.Mob violence is evil. A civil and respectful people might disagree on this case, but they would ALL agree that acting out that anger violently is WRONG.Respectfully,C.
I don’t know if Zimmerman is a racist or not, but I do see that a lot of the public reaction to the outcome of the trial involves race. I really wish the US were post-racial, but I don’t see it.
It is time for the media to leave Zimmerman alone. They tried , along with the administration, tried to force a guilty verdict but the jury did not cooperate with the government.
Say what you want about Martin but leave out white, black or green if Zimmerman didn’t chose to follow someone for whatever motivation there would be one more young kid walking the streets today. Who was the adult in this needless altercation?
interview with one of the jurors. 1. her husband is a lawyer 2. she’s a mother 3. she’s a total idiot. Sorry, but this proves again that juries are not made up of peers, but who’s got the time to be available, and generally, lowest common denominator is selected by, especially, defense lawyers. We never heard the questioning of the panel to select jurors, but unless the prosecution intended to “blow the case”, they screwed up royally.
Should a jury of your peers mean the jury should reflect society or the defendant’s portion of society? If it is the latter, then the jury did reasonably reflect Zimmerman’s peers, as I think three were latino. A common thought is that blacks should have been represented on the jury, but it was not Marten on trial. A jury of your peers might have meant justice at one time. More and more it now means you walk.
If I had been prosecuting the case, I’d have tried to seat a juror who had once been a 17-year-old boy, whatever his color. But preferably one who at some point had been in a schoolyard fight or at least had played a sport in which standing up for yourself was more or less required.
