Why should any of us obey this “law”? I say “law” in quotes because I do not consider a piece of legislation that nobody even read and got passed to be a law. It should be unconstitutional to pass a law no one has read. Obamacare doesn’t need fixing, it needs to be flushed.
It is frustrating that the Republicans in congress have spent so much time, and time is money, on their 37 attempts to kill healthcare. Why are they not picking it apart to eliminate the waste, fraud, abuse, and inefficiencies? Why are they not making the changes needed for this bill which even Mr. Obama said was not a perfect solution when he signed it. I believe the president would welcome a civil and respectful debate that would result in a bipartisan, and in being bipartisan, more acceptable plan.^There are many committees in Congress. Mr. Reid has placed his ‘loyal’ members into positions of leadership in those committess of the Senate, just as Mr. Boehnor has placed his ‘allies’ into positions of leadership in House committees. The qualifications of many of these leading positions are dubious at best since the appointments are made based on deals rather than ability to objectively and intelligently guide debate on the issues for which they are responsible.^It has been well documented that our legislators spend 4 to 6 hours a day fund raising in an office building, shared by both parties, a short walk from their congressional offices. Some of our committee leaders only convene their committees if they know there will be media interest, or if they have a chance to make political points with their bases, irregardless of whether the issue in question has real value to the entire nation or not.^As long as our cannibalistic legislators care more about their job security, their future positions as lobbyists or corporate executives, and/or their party’s dominance than they do their Nation, the American people, and the Constitution we will not see the civility needed to conduct bipartisan legislation and we will continue to see a deterioration in the respect the American people have for their gov’t. You cannot build bridges by shoving legislation down your opponents’ throats with arrogance and hubris. It must be done with respect, and civility.It’s a good cartoon and shows well how conservative felt Ms. Pelosi treated them when she had her brief majority. It is too bad Congress lacks the intelligence/will to learn from the mistakes of history.Respectfully,C.
If a train wreck is imminent, good people work hard to prevent or minimize the damage about to occur, Exoticdoc.If you are going to remove the gov’t from having a hand in healthcare, then you need to tell hospitals they no longer have to take ER patients unless they can pay, and remove all subsidies to hospitals and medical providers.I do not find that to be an option in a civil society.It would be akin to telling Americans that gov’t has no right to require them to insure their cars once they are paid for.I understand you dislike this program, but what do you suggest be done in order to make healthcare quit being one of the biggest expenditures Americans and their State/National gov’t has.Respectfully,C.

There are better answers, but someone has to be willing to propose one. A hint from someone who has been in health care for more than 30 years: giving more power to private insurance companies is the worst thing we can do, and that is the major failing of Obamacare, since it does just that.

Would that that were true. “Repeal and replace” really means “repeal and do nothing”, which brings us back to the previous well-broken system. Romney/Ryan doesn’t count; it would bankrupt the country even faster than Obamacare will.

How goes it?The short answer is because I personally know more people it’s helping than is not. ^I also see the increased costs many are experiencing as temporary – perhaps five years – as the benefits of preventative healthcare are realized. Yes, they can be realized. And there is also the problem.^Unless the two party oligarchy stops dividing and weakening our nation (as per Geo Washington) and begin a civil and respectful debate on the matter of health care, they will continue to spend more time fund raising and finding ways to slip anonymous riders and amendments into urgent legislation.I would rather do away with our current group of “leaders” and replace them with competent people who can see beyond the next six months or election cycle, whatever is longest.It is a bad bill, it is – in many of its compenents, better than no bill, though we may disagree.Though disagreeing with you can be enlightening.be well, neighbor,Respectfully,C.
