It’s Roz who’s gay, not Mel.

Returning soldiers have long history of not discussing their experiences at length, or in depth. Could this be what he means?

Assuming all the strips in this arc are run as they were originally (last year), we will see Mel “dwelling” around this time next week. Mel was a victim of “command rape” a year or two before this strip.

As annieb1012 says, it is Roz who is gay, not Mel. Mel confided in Roz, whose response was to ask “Is this guy still breathing? Only I’ve got a couple of weeks leave coming up…”

Because the Russians didn’t ship advanced MANPAD’s into Afghanistan for the Taliban to use, and we DID. We supplied a relatively small number of Stingers to the Muhahideen, which they used to rather great effect. Hence we can, with limited risk, conduct helicopter operations, and the Russians, particularly toward the end, couldn’t.

Most ex-soldiers I know do not want to talk about their experiences, they want to forget the trauma and live their lives. Dwelling just extends the trauma.

Joan and others: When a comic strip shows a relationship between a straight man and a straight woman, they are not necessarily a couple. So if a comic strip shows a person (of either sex) known to be gay or lesbian, and shows them with a person of the same sex, it is just barely possible that they are, you know, FRIENDS. I and many, many other straight people have good friends of my own sex, and some of them are h-o-m-o-s-e-x-u-a-l-s. That does not make me a h-o-m-o-s-e-x-u-a-l too, and it does not mean we have a sexual relationship. It means we are, you know, FRIENDS.

“Neither could the British. Afghanistan isn’t called the “Graveyard of Empires” for nothing.”

Nor even Alexander. Smart Empire builders would leave them strictly alone.

Actually, I think ALEC is an abdication of intelligent thought, since they write the legislation that the idiots pass, word for word.
