You know looking at the Bernice, Delta references I have two comments. First, this comic is within the warp of the culture wars here. This is one reason I bet Greg might be a bit hesitant to develop the theme he might be developing for them. Hell and damnation in a family strip—give me a break!! Second, why comment on them and forget the romance arc? This is a teenager that we have delightfully seen grow up in the Luann world, I know I have for a lonnnng time. She is transitioning, as are the rest of the characters in the strip. On my first point I hope that if this family strip confronts that issue, which I hope it does, it does on the side of the culture war that is based on tolerance, and not homophobia. In my humble opinion those who call themselves Christians, and consign others of God’s world to hell for their personal genetically based conduct, might need to think about those flames themselves. Geez, there I go getting into the fray in spite of myself.

By the way death on the way to the airport!!! Good grief!

So, even if they didn’t kiss goodbye, they had plenty of practice…. one of those other moments can fill in….

So glad Luann is taking it well…for her anyway. But seriously, what happened to the optimistic outlook of “yay! Quill is coming back for senior year.” Or did reality suddenly break through the waves and bite? (sorry, it’s shark week)

The only thing keeping Luann and Quill relationship going is the fact that Quill spends most of his time in Australia. Full time with Luann would suck the lifeblood out of any man; with the possible exception of Gunther of course.

I think the most appropriate song would be the Hollies’ “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress”.

Actually, though black is known to trap heat, it actually isn’t really too different from any other color in the summer…. it seems more perception and tolerance to weather conditions than anything else… more to consider would be the thickness of the material worn..= I have several island shirts that are predominantly black, with palm trees and different patterns on them… also wear black year round, and for business wear, and leisure as well… it really depends on the material worn (like wool vs. cotton, blends, etc) for the time of year, and the like…

Wow, the dad is dense if he really doesn’t know what is going on with his daughter. I notice men in real life are often that dense about their kids.

If I remember correctly, Australia does have some small mountains (I don’t remember their name) that get snow on them every winter (theirs)…there are some ski resorts there also. It also has tropical plants and animals in the northeast, and very dry land in the midst of the country. I’ve heard that Perth is a very nice place to live. ( Did someone once say that Quill’s home is there?) I hope Luann can drive back to her home safely after seeing Quill off. I’m guessing that he hasn’t talked with his parents yet which might be a catalyst for her dramatic mourning… ;)

Well, that’s what my instructor (an active Parris Island D.I.) always ordered when calling my gunnery at Undergrad school (Believe it or not, they actually offered a course in “Riflery” as part of the Phys. Ed. dept.). I can still hear him so many years later:

“WITH A MAGAZINE AND 5 ROUNDS, LOCK AND LOAD!”

At the time, I believe more weapons were designed to have a separate safety, which needed to be “locked on” before loading (at least in his class). Once the firing line was ready, he would then order us to “take aim,” “unlock.” and then “commence firing.”

Oddly enough, at the time, the gunnery call did not include “Clear and lock” after “cease fire.”

I’m sorry that it’s not discussion related, but I am ready for American Football, though CFL is still going on till Grey Cup time…

Sorry Lev, you’re wrong. as a guy who has run literally hundreds of small arms ranges for the US Army, I can attest – we always said “lock and load” for locking the magazine into the weapon, then loading the first round into the chamber. That’s just the truth.

Oh, I thought you may have also just inadvertently switched Johnny Mercer and Johnny Rivers’ names by accident, as both penned songs dealing with Summer, Mercer’s Summer Rain, and Rivers’ Summer Winds…

So, is it gonna be Lu and Quill at the airport? Or will the “governor” call (Australian Governor General) and give Qcumber a “stay” ? Heh heh….
