Social Security? You mean the “retirement insurance” everyone is forced to buy? The program that has been expanded to cover everyone even non contributors? The program that is now finding it impossible to keep it’s promises? Sound familiar?

Pab, you mock racists for three days (for three ways to Sunday, deservedly and hilariously), then stop. Why? Then you mock Republicans with unfunny media stereotype jokes that sound like they’re written by Michael Moore and Chris Matthews for a week. Again, why? I’ve seen enough of your work to know we disagree on many issues. But for the most part, I find your work hilarious.
The cutoff of the Klan/bigot/racist-mocking strip I’m still trying to figure out. Except that something like that should be utterly mocked. And for two days it was… Then supplanted after, from what I see, are complaints from those so sensitive, so “P. C.,” that you can’t make fun of hardcore racists. (People that in my opinion SHOULD be mocked.) Because bringing racism (and its despicable continued existence) up in a public forum is “bad taste” and “hurtful.”
Soooo, in the space of one week to the next: the interruption of the strip for Oscar Wilde on Thursday, I understand. The following strips—especially THIS week, read like someone being scared off a subject. And then jumping into the most P. C. storyline possible. Please go back to being cutting-edge, and satirizing BOTH sides in future issues. Not blindly following a popular stereotypical view. Otherwise, I could see you baking your recipe for “Hot Cross Buns” in your future… for YOUR master!
Congratulations Pab on a really funny arc. You’ve given me a good laugh, all week – something that every cartoonist strives for but often come short. It is very difficult to come up with an off-the-wall premise and continually make it funny for your readers. You hit it out of the park this week.
The Tea Party is a group of people who live off the government complaining about other people who shouldn’t get to live off the government. Among my friends in this group are retirees drawing social security, an ex-federal employee, and some on disability.
There exists a frequently quoted: “If you are not a Liberal when you are young, you have no heart. If you are not a Conservative when you are old you have no brains”. This quote is frequently attributed to Winston Churchill, but the English language changes much more rapidly than people recognize. In Winston Churchill’s day, heart meant determination, as today a race fan may say “That horse ran his heart out”. “In Winston Churchill’s, and Edmund Burke’s time, Liberal meant much what Libertarian means today, and the best comparison to Conservative was then, is European ChristianDemocrats, slightly to the right of American current mainstream Democratic Party, although far to the right of a few fringe Democratic Congressmen. Every libel here against Ayn Rand has been answered many times and can be easily found by anyone interested in the truth. If such a person is reading this strip, for starters you can search for Ayn Rand’s opinion on the morality of accepting scholarships (directly applicable to Soc. Sec.) and her substantial writings on the nature of government which make clear that anyone who thinks Ayn Rand was anti-government doesn’t know anything about her at all.
BTW, my favorite Ayn Rand reference is in Matt Ruff’s “Sewer, Gas, and Electric.” There’s a scene in the afterlife where Abby Hoffman’s punishment for his sins is that he has to tell Ayn Rand a joke, and she has to understand it and laugh, before he can move on.
