With several European countries lowering birth rates, dramatically, and even closing down parts of maternity wards, the “crop” of young people coming along to pay the bills for the elderly will be a concern.
That “public service” is all the material and aesthetic things those public servants provide, yes, taxes in even the U.S. DO need to increase to meet demands, especially the demands made by huge corporations that pay little or none of those taxes.

Tch, I wouldn’t be so sure, look at the rise of the extreme right-wing in a few European countries; like the Golden Dawn in Greece, Front Nacional in France, Lega Nord in Italy, FPÖ in Austria, NPD in Germany, British National Party, Vlaams Blok in Belgium, and the PVV in the Netherlands; and so on…
