someone named Kane is on a hockey team in Illinois "Abe L’incon also comes from Illinois…. play on words for the biblical characters Cane and Able. not Dan’s best joke but it must be hard to come up with something every day
Abe is an Illinoisan. Kane is an Illinoyance—and I love the Hawks! Not Dan’s best joke, but the MVP of a major sports championship is certainly fair game for a subject. Many more minor pop references have been the subject of prior “Brevity” strips.
maldo: By wrestling, I am not so sure; officers by ballot of those they will lead in battle, I am all for. A well-regulated militia was prescribed as the way to defend the nation without using conscripts, mercenaries, or a large standing army. It worked until WW-I and quite a few in that war came from militias. My father-in-law’s uncle was a brigadier general in that war and made the jump to officer rank by election by his militia.

Abe and Kane are Illinoisans. What does one call people from Connecticut? Not “Connections”, please, which is what I’m told.

Would November 3, 1954 be considered Adam Ant Eve?

Lincoln served as a militia captain during the Blackhawk Wars in 1832.

maldo: Most militias elected their officers, Lincoln won his captaincy in a wrestling match.

@hippogriff: So I understand! Maybe there is room to expand that for other political contests?
