The youth certainly don’t need more “youth leaders” like Julius Malema either. Good riddance.
The latest hospitalisation of Mandela (aged 94) has led South Africans to slowly come round to the idea that Mandela isn’t going to be with us for very much longer. I was a little surprised just how much the country still cared as Mandela hasn’t been active for the past decade.
The ANC is corrupt. It’s no longer Mandela’s party
Fortunately, “Agang” was launched earlier this year by the very loved & respected Dr Mamphela Ramphele, the late Steve Biko’s partner. I’ve been watching her movement since the beginning of this year and I’m confident South Africa has finally found someone who will and can challenge the ANC, who have been resting on their liberation party status, refusing to be held accountable and feathering their nests at the country’s expense.
Hopefully Mandela’s legacy of a reconciled country shines on through.
Itºs been 19 years since the first free elections and the ANC still markets itself as the party of liberation. It won the last few elections with a 2/3rds majority and therefore feels it doesnºt have to be held accountable. The DA has slowly been gaining ground but I donºt think it will ever be in a position to threaten the ANC (except in the Western Cape, of course) It’s often seen as a party associated with affluent whites despite its long history of liberal politics while SA was under apartheid. The DA had been wooing Ramphele for ages and I think think Zille was ever so slightly miffed when she decided to form her own political movement instead. But I support Agang. I foresee Agang absorbing DA support, and the DA, not the other way around.
Seriously though, Ramphele is in the same league as Mandela & Tutu. They are the South Africans other South Africans should look up to.(I realise I’m gushing, and I realise I’m viewing her through rose-tinted glasses but the desperate state of affairs in SA politics makes me do it. I bloody hope it isn’t like Obama all over again)
Watching live images of Obama arriving in South Africa. Obama has stated he will not seek a “photo-op” with Mandela and will respect his family’s wishes.
