You trolls (and you know who you are) obviously read Mike Luckovich just so you can make nasty political remarks. Politics and religions are two subjects best avoided. You leave a nasty taste in my mouth.
Well reasoned and written.Sadly, two things the uninformed right will always fail to appreciate.Perhaps if you called them “Re-dumb-licans” or some such nonsense you might catch their attention.
Gosh, if we castrated all Republicans, who would pay the taxes, and do the work, and defend our shores. I think women want real men, and they are only found in Republican ranks.
What’s with these idiots? The same ones who want to ban abortions in rape cases also want to ban prosecution of rapists in the military. Can you say “accessory after the fact”?
Simple fact is, the House Republicans need to stop practicing medicine without a license, or using the legislative process to sell their “biblical view of the world” to cite Asay.
. Actually the liberation of women has made things much worse for women – or at least, the American version has had that negative result. It may be less true in other places, but in the US, women are worse off than they have been any time since the Middle Ages.
It should rightly have been called ‘the liberation of men and corporations’, because as soon as women were declared to be ‘liberated’, men decided that they were totally absolved of any responsibility for their own sexuality. Unfortunately, they didn’t see any reason to free women of any such responsibilitiy, but simply abandoned them to their fates, should their birth control fail for any reason whatever, or if they insisted on the relationship but refused to use the bc that was available to hand.
Corporations promptly cut all wages, for women and men, now having a surplus of potential employees, and happy to exploit them in an employer’s market.
In other words, women have received absolutely no benefit from their ‘liberation’ so called, they have simply been forced to take on a second full time job (more commonly, a couple of part time jobs), in addition to their children. Most women are employed at minimum wage jobs which offer no health coverage. Women have more responsibility, with less return, and what this has done to children should be considered to be criminal abuse. Women now have far fewer choices than they had before they were ‘liberated’.
Not only have women not been liberated, they’ve been impoverished and marginalized.
To add insult to injury, TPTB who are working hard to deny women access to birth control at all are complaining about an ‘overpopulation’ problem. The most efficient way to slow population growth is to give all women of reproductive age free and unlimited access to birth control, (including abortion), and set up a real education system.
Either their concern about overpopulation is a lie, or their commitment to the ‘liberation of women’ is a lie. Which is it?
I’d say, actually, that both are lies. There is no real concern about the potential for overpopulation, because the more population you have, the lower labour costs are, and they certainly don’t want to liberate women, because if women stop bearing, they won’t have that nice convenient pool of desperate, starving workers to tap.
I don’t, actually, wonder why there is a gender gap, and I agree that both sides of the aisle have had a hand in it. It seems patently obvious to me, but then I’m old, a woman, and regrettably literate as well as rather literal minded. I recognized the ‘liberation of women’ as a con within ten years of my ‘liberation’. It seemed like such a good idea, but it was very soon clear that it wasn’t panning out.
“Population growth is projected to hit 9+ billion by 2050.Todays impact by the existing 7 billion people on this planet is taking its toll everywhere we look limited resourses, pollution, death and strife created by over population etc.”
Resources are limited by governments.
Pollution is created by industry, while governments turn a blind eye.
Death and Strife are created by governments.
There is no particular reason why population growth cannot be slowed, nor any reason to assume we won’t be able to feed the masses in the future. The unfortunate reality is that those in power don’t want to slow population growth, nor do they want anyone thinking that there are enough resources to go around for some time yet to come.
Because of the broad global political climate, the US probably has more influence still than any other single country. This is unfortunate, since the government of this country seems most deeply committed to continuing the toxic pollution of the environment, oppressing it’s population, blocking efforts to slow population growth, and in general obstructing all possible avenues of growth for the future for anyone but themselves. If this is true, it is doubly important for the US to clean up its act, because if the US does, most of the rest of the world will follow willingly.
If the will was there, it could be done, but the things that need doing seem to be the things the government is most reluctant to do. Unlimited birth control for women of reproductive age, including access to abortion. Major reform of education, which at this point is nothing but a propaganda machine. A return to functional academic education is needed.
And the incestuous relationships between industry and the regulatory agencies of this government really has to end, preferably with penalties and other real consequences.
“This ban on abortions is pushed because of one individual..Kermitt Gosnel.. yet gun purchase background checks, which may save many more lives are off the table. Strange!”
Where have you been?
Ever since Roe vs. Wade passed, the Fundamentalists have been trying to kill it. Fair enough, it tends to be cyclic, but legal abortions have never been truly accepted in this country.
I am sorry telling women you can be sluts is a good thing. I mean look at Clinton’s use for women cigar holders. and what about ed kennedy use them to hold the car under the water so it will not float away. And it was the republicans that gave women a chance to go to school to get off welfare.

Sorry, onguard, there are studies that show that single women are much happier than married ones, but married men are much happier than single ones.

Gosnell broke the law. Quit attributing his actions to all abortion clinics that do follow the law.

There’s no lobby money from women who want to control their own bodies; hence no interest from the GOP.
