Hummingbirds burn so much energy that they must eat their own body weight and food each day and slow down their metabolism each night or they would starve to death! A lightning storm occurs at the mouth of the Catatumbo River, in Venezuela, 150 days of each year for up to 10 hours! Students at Tsukuba University in Japan have invented a Girlfriend Coat that makes you feel as if you are being hugged!

It would be interesting to know what local myths may have arisen regarding that Venezuela river with all its lightning storms, maybe some Bermuda Triangle type stuff.

The most common cause of death in hummingbirds is not having the energy to wake up. I’ve also heard that they need to eat much more than their own weight but don’t know that for sure.
As for the lightning storms, Awesome! I’d love to see that. It’s a wonder someone isn’t trying to find a way to collect that energy though. Can you think of the power generation abilities? “1.21 gigawatts?!” – Dr Emmett Brown in Back to the Future.
