Wished some video games could go back to stuff like this… resourcefulness, education, and entertainment all in one….

And Guy once again recaptures a lost era when boys were allowed to carried pocket knives. If your dad, grand dad, uncle or the guy next door didn’’t teach you how to handle it safely, you would learn in Cub Scouts.

Back then boy wore “camping shorts” to school with a loop on the belt for the pocket knife. And yes – we would bring the knife to school. It was truly no big deal.

And somehow we all managed to get through the days without incident.

These days, bite your Pop Tart into the wrong shape and you get expelled.

That little boy is carrying a knife? Sacré bleu! And he is swinging around, hanging upside down from a tree branch with an open pocket knife… that’s a nasty accident waiting to happen.(yes, I know, “it’s a comic strip”.)

So if you look at this strip in June 28th you will see that it’s about a 20 foot walk with nothing in the way in order to go over and untie the dog. So why climb up a tree and swing over and hang upside down??

Back in the day every self-respecting boy carried a pocket knife (and some girls, too.) You needed it in case you were captured and tied up by some bad guys. And at recess we would play Mumblypeg. (You throw your knife at your opponent’s feet. The one who is closest without actually hitting the other guy’s foot is the winner.) Particularly exciting when you’re barefoot.

I see the dog running to Nancy to thank her for saving him. It is a “him” isn’t it, or a “her”?

“….see this as a mean dog?”^Not mean…. just either “panicked” or “afraid”… we as people can use reasoning and are aware of certain factors… dogs, though intelligent, only have sight, smell, taste, sound and touch to rely upon…. add to this the emotions that a dog may feel, panic at choking, fear, hunger, etc… and a dog may involuntarily bite, out of the inborn instinct of “fight or flight” or as a way to release it’s emotion… we are different as humans… ==The dog (or nearly any other animal) can be as friendly as it can be at any other time, but again, shock or panic or fear or the general feeling of distress that comes with being in trouble like this can set it off…. the dog could also sense that Nancy and Sluggo are not threats per se (though we pretty much can know they’re not, looking from the outside in), but that doesn’t mean that it would always be able to stop itself from trying to protect out of instinct… it’s like a “mix of feelings” they can have, and sometimes the panic one can predominate….

1000 teeth is a kilobite. The pooch would need a million teeth for a megachomp.
