I read that book in HS. I decided I was all against book burning cus I sure as heck didn’t to spend my time memorizing The Great Gatsby (which would have been near the top of my list of books to burn).

Had to read it in HS. But I re-read it 2 years ago, after 30+ years of RL, and it reverberated more in my heart and head.

The fear was that ignorance would be enforced from the top. I guess they never figured that the people themselves would prefer ignorance.

Odd that so many folks say they were “forced” to read it in H.S. I was a fan of Bradbury since Junior High and had read F451 when I was 13 or 14. Read it again about a decade later.

A few years ago there was a Ray Bradbury collection that came out (I think it was one more for the Road) and the cover of the collection showed a hitch-hiking skeloten and in the background was a highway sign that said 451.

Okay, I admit it, I don’t know how to add a picture to my comment but I found the cover by going to Amazon and searching Ray Bradbury one more for the road.

Never had to read F451 in HS. Instead, we had “I Never Promised You a Rose Garden”. sigh. Would have been nice to have had some good sci-fic offered in HS. .Imagine reading all of John Wyndham’s short novels for Social Studies (and History) A very colonial view point of the world..One movie made me head to the bookstore…. The HandMaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. (yes… that Atwood… only thing of hers that I have read)
