In my case, ask MIL over for a day to watch children while I am away doing something; come back to see two weeks worth of stuff ironed and folded.

Ah, nothing like a day at a lake to defuse stress.

Very refreshing to see she has her priorities straight. My mom, God rest her soul, was a wonderful person and mother, but was a “cleany” to the max, and couldn’t go out if there were still dirty dishes in the sink that hadn’t been put in the washer, etc. Housework can wait. Enjoy the summer days with your kids now while you can.

“Why doesn’t she get the whole household to help? No reason she should be slaving away while the others are lazing away. Many hands make light work.”.Because that wouldn’t be funny.

“Why doesn’t she get the whole household to help?”Um. Where do I start? If the whole household doesn’t want to help, it can be aitch to get a couple minutes’ labor out of them. It’s like pushing a string. Sometimes, something like, “Well, do you want to go to the beach?” will work, but otherwise one might have to use measures that would get one on Page 2B of the nearest large city’s newspaper.
