Val: If there's something worse than going to an OFFICE on a warm summer day... Val: When the rest of the family is still in their PJs...and their only obligation is getting to the POOL in time for swim lessons... Val: Where was I going with that?? Wally: I'm not sure, but you're depressing me.

How about working a traffic accident at 0300, in a driving rain on a hot night, so you feel as if you are at the bottom of a lake, and you know you will be there until dawn. Then comes notifiying family about the accident, and then the paperwork. If you are a deputy, with a take home squad, if it’s either still raining, so you can’t put the windows on the squad down, or you are too tired to remember to, you will have a wet car seat at the start of thye next shift. Does that make your day sound any easier, Val?

That was snarkier than I meant it to be, I apologise. Say Hi to Phil for me.

She should try working nights doing manual labor in a dirty, HOT factory during the summer and then she’d be able to spend her days with her family

Are we all seriously slagging off a cartoon character here for mildly complaining about her job? Because Garfield’s aversion to Mondays is far worse given that he is in no way gainfully employed and gets his lasagna for free, but still takes a whole strip almost every week to express his distain. Someone really ought to go read him the riot act!

My area’s EMS workers are and have been busy for the past few days, we’ve had terrible flooding in our city plus a few towns completely under water. The flood waters should have hit Medicine Hat last night.
Off to my volunteer shift at the hospital where the patients from one small town hospital were evacuated to (High River’s entire hospital is unaccessible and under water).
Loving my Monday mornings!

My retired calendar has 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday. The only complication is the “Honey-do” List.

Best wishes to you all in Saskatchewan with cleanup and rebuilding. Our neighbors in Schoharie County, NY – including many farmers – are finally getting back on their feet after being flooded out by Irene. Be strong!

There are definate bennies to being a deputy on the 3rd shift. Star filled skies after a snowstorm, watching the cows head for the barn on a misty morning as the sun is coming up, cool, quiet dawns, driving through a village, and knowing you and a couple of cats are the only ones awake. All in all, a very satifying way of life.
