The cartoon is grim and sadly appropriate. This civil war, like a vacuum cleaner, sucks. But there is no filter in that machine. Everything it takes in gets thrown out the back in worse shape than it entered. Enemies from throughout the region are gathering in Syria to fight the wars they can’t wage against each other there. Even if Assad ‘wins’, and with Russia, Iran, and Hezbollah’s aid, he may, he will no longer ‘rule’ his country. He will be indebted to entities from beyond his borders who may well eliminate him themselves to put a more malleable leader into place.This vacuum cleaner doesn’t clean, it simply creates a vortex in which human beings are thrown against each other in hate, fear, and chaos. And those who are dividing and tearing down Syria’s “democracy” are hoping every day that we in the USA will also cast aside all pretenses of civility and good will and turn on each other as Syrians and other nations have. If they read the forums, they may feel they have reason to be hopeful.Respectfully,C.
