As a gun owner we need stronger gun control. Any owner that allows their gun to kill even by accident are more responsible than that dog owner who’s dogs killed a jogger.
Perhaps some gun owners keep loaded guns too accessible for defense from strangers that cause death in their own family. Sadly it does not surprise me. I swear I know a guy who keeps a gun over his front door. Pesky salesmen?
Hopefully there will come a day when the adults stop acting like kids and will not be driven to collect and play with their hand guns and assault weapons like they are shiny fascinating play-toys.
I will never understand why conservatives will always blame either Obama or liberals for everything. That is what I call paranoia, Bigtime. Get a life.
“As a gun owner” is an automatic flag that you are telling a lie.@Omnius – We call you a “victim,” especially after someone robs and beats you when you could have ended it quite simply. If civilians are cowards for carrying a firearm, then why are the police carrying them? We face some of the same liberal mass murderers and loonies that they do.
Why is it that the ones trying the hardest to strip us of basic freedoms the ones who were not brave enough to wear a uniform to protect these same freedoms?
If this one is deleted, so is your strip in my bookmarks.
“Your attack-mode language is insulting, demeaning, and offensive…”.I can’t help but agree that Omnius is in an aggressive mood today, but for Conservatives to criticize Liberals for their “attack-mode language” is completely hypocritical and quite laughable. We don’t like it from you anymore than you like getting it back. You can be the “peace-makers,” step back and create a new civility, or you can keep on swinging and expect it to come right back to you.
“So you would rather sit in a chair and watch thugs with guns break into your home tie you to your chair and then bring your wife and kids into the room and shoot and kill each of them in front of you and leave you alive?”.Does this happen often to you, or your family or friends? You seem to live in a horrible, frightening world. If this is how you envision your future, then you should keep a loaded, cocked gun in your hand at all times, just in case. And never sleep, or in anyway let down your guard, just immediately shoot anyone who looks “scary” to you.
^Ima constantly harangues me because I’m a “liberal” gun owner who knows how, and when, and when NOT to use them. When I had kids in the house, all my guns were locked up, including service weapon. Today, all my guns are locked up and unloaded, but one. That one is where I can, in the extremely remote possibility, I might need it for “self defense”. At 29, never felt I need a firearm for defense. At 69, I’ve slowed down, but a .38 P, or .45 APC, have not.
BTW, live less than a mile from a minimum security prison, and we’re on the automatic call list if they get a “walkaway”, but both the warden (who I serve on a commission with) and I are both well aware that living as close as I do, I’m among those LEAST LIKELY to be bothered by and escapee.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t protect them away from home.
Education is the key. I, too was brought up with guns. We were allowed to handle them only under supervision as children, we were taught to maintain them, and we had no tragedies.
Really? In her resignation speech, Michelle Bachmann blamed the killings in Benghazi on the cover-up. No, it wasn’t the terrorists who did the killings according to her, it was the alleged cover-up after the deaths of the 4 Americans that caused their deaths! Just more “rational” right-wing thinking.
Your logic would only make sense if bombs weren’t already illegal. Since they are, we blame the bomber. But guns are legal, though often mishandled and misused. More controls on guns might make for fewer deaths by gun.
The comments from the this collum should be copied and presented as one of the best anti-gun pieces of evidence. How about that guy in FL who gunned down a Japanese tourist for walking up to his door because he was lost. NRA kooks found him not-guilty. I wonder how many Blacks are allowed in the NRA?
Sweetie: You need to get up from the TV and go out into the real world for awhile. I just turned 66 and neither I or my really big family, throughout this country and world, have ever dealt with that make beileve senerio you gun kooks keep wringing your hands about.

Leaving tools of any kind where children can access them is irresponsible. Sort of like passing laws that don’t address such issues.

I agree, Omn’s response is too much like the response seen from the NRA leadership.

A completely false and ignorant statement. But don’t let the facts get in the way of your dumping garbage like that anywhere you please.

I say it is hard to accidentally stab a person to death. It is much easier for even a careful person to accidentally misfire a gun.
