Norman: In this year's "pageant of the painters" show, I'll be the farmer in the "American Gothic" painting. I stand onstage next to my wife, with a dignified look on my face. We have to stand perfectly still for 2 minutes! Ralph: Don't mess it up like last year... Turn off your cell-phone!! Norman: Don't worry. I'm putting it on vibrate!

Very predictable! He probably has not tried the vibrate before so it will make him laugh when the farmer has a very serious expression.

I seem to recall reading that the models in “American Gothic” were actually brother and sister. (Wouldn’t it be amazing if there were some electronic way to confirm that?)

The house is in Eldon Iowa, right off Hwy 163. Watch for the signs. They built a visitors center across the street about 6 years ago. http://www.wapellocounty.org/americangothic/

Very interesting seeing the history of the house and all the occupants for over 100 years. If I ever passed that way, I’d be sure to take a photo there (which I’m sure is provided at a fee, now that it is a monument).
