Notice the difference between what the cartoon says: that a record-breaking storm may or may not have to do with changing climate patterns; and what Toles’ enemies PRETEND the cartoon is saying so that they can attack him: that human policies are driving unprecendented global warming and thus creating super storms and super tornados. It is so much easier to mock someone when you get to make up his positions and words rather than sticking to what he really says. The world is getting warmer, as such things are measured, but for any given spot, that might mean colder or hotter, wetter or dryer, depending on what else is going on. That’s why “climate change” is a better term than “global warming”. Notice that “the climate is always changing” get used a lot. If crime rates go up, we don’t shrug and say “there always has been crime, always will be.” If the poverty rate goes up, we don’t say “the poor will always be with you.” If acts of terrorism get more frequent, we don’t say “we’ll always have enemies.” If infectious disease rates go up, we don’t shrug and say, “people are always getting sick.” We look for a cause. But when the climate shifts, and storms and droughts come along such as we’ve not seen on record, we are branded as fools if we even bother to ask why. Personally, I don’t know if any of this has been influenced by human activity. The vast majority of those who have devoted their professional careers as scientists studying the question seem to think we have had a role in this. But they could still could be wrong! I don’t know. But certainly if the experts don’t know, then neither does anyone else. And anyone who claims they know, is obviously full of hot air (to be polite). Asserting that there is NO man-made climate change is NOT being skeptical or being careful. It is being stupid. Being skeptical is admitting that all those scientists MIGHT be wrong. If 90% of weathermen tell you a big storm is heading your way, and 10% tell you not to worry about it, is it smart to dismiss the 90% and take no precautions? But foolish ideologues don’t play odds, and don’t believe in skepticism: they KNOW.

Oh no, a tornado. Must be global warming. Oh no, there is a Bengazi fiasco. Must be global warming. Oh no, the IRS is abusing its powers. Must be global warming. Oh no, we are heading toward another recession. Must be global warming. Oh no, the temperatures are getting colder. Must be global warming. Oh no, we are having fewer hurricanes. Must be global warming. Oh no, we are having more hurricanes. Must be global warming. When will the fanatics realize that when analyzed, the truth does not support all of the claims of global warming (or the revised version of global warming – climate change). It is all a big hoax to force people to spend money and let a few fanatics control us.

http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2013/05/21/1975-tornado-outbreaks-blamed-on-global-cooling/At one point in time people thought the Earth was flat and physically located at the center of the universe. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, people believed tobacco and cocaine might be beneficial to your health. As technology improved, (most) people came to accept their earlier beliefs were wrong. Technology has improved immensely since the 1970s. Scientists have learned so much in the last 40 years. My point is the article you point to, much like most of your posts, is utterly irrelevant.

Exxon-Mobil acknowledges that man-made global climate change exists, and advocate a carbon tax. But everyone knows that the Exxon-Mobil Corporation is just a bunch of left-wing tree-huggers.

Please reference your “Bad Science” claims. Most refutation I have seen has been to the deniers research.

What on Earth are you babbling about? Anthropogenic Global Warming is happening. It’s confirmed. There is no controversy among scientists, only among the ignorant. This has nothing to do with the government. Or politics.

Okay, let’s try again. More than 97% of climate scientists say there IS Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW). A similar percentage of scientific papers confirm that AGW is occurring. These are facts.Saying that climate changes over time is NOT the same as saying that the climate changes we are having now are (1) normal, (2) manageable. And even if global warming is NOT human-caused, that doesn’t mean it is not cause for concern. Just because climate goes up and down does NOT mean that we are able to weather it out easily. After all, Death Valley used to be under a LOT of water…

The legal standard is “beyond a reasonable doubt”, not no doubt at all.

I would trust the jury in this one.

Sure. But either way, it’s irrelevant. The real issue is the environment.

We aren’t allowed to talk about that, though.

“We COULD be next. Science is called for, NOT politics.”

Exactly. Science – and money. The cleanup will definitely take money.

They are only one factor in the problem. The others are the quality of the soil and water.

Our food is heavily contaminated with pesticides and herbicides. Our water is not only contaminated with those agricultural chemicals, but also toxic chemicals from various heavy industries, and a plethora of drugs and hormones via the pharmaceutical industries. Industrial agriclture is one of the worst offenders of the right-to-pollute players; not only the doubtful heritage of GMO crops, both vegetable and animal (OK, fish; we now have GMO salmon), but those crops are dependent of much heavier applications of agricultural chemicals than natural crops. This alone should be enough to outlaw them. This year Monsanto told farmers who were complaining that their (excessive) application of Roundup was still not controlling the weeds to apply 2,4D.

Yes, fossil fuels are a problem. But the food and water is equally toxic.

Isn’t it interesting that ‘primitive’ peoples save the worst of their civil punishment for poisoning the wells?

But after all, we are civilized.

    Or not.

Why are you willing to apply all the regulation and control to the people at the bottom of the equation?

Regulating industry is government’s job. Regulating the population is police state stuff.

Are you really enjoying the police state that much?

Research conclusions in the ’50’s led to law changes, around the world, that DID change the climate change model in different regions (like removing soot in England led to warming trends there, and reducing smog in Los Angeles reduced the death of trees in the mountain ranges around the area, not to mention lowered the expected human deaths from lung disease). However, the continued increase in burning of fossil fuels has continued to create more problems, and a different “dynamic”.

There are variances in the models, but the overwhelming finality is that humans are warming the globe, and deep doo doo is in our future, as present day biological systems are demonstrating, today!

Man, are you still rolling out the Global Warming Petition Project? They may be scientists — though many of them are not, and most of them are NOT climate scientists — but that doesn’t mean their opinion is worth anything. It is pointless.
