No one has made any attempt to state exactly how the IRS should determine whether an organization is political.-Not to mention, why should a political organization be granted favorable tax status in the first place?

Hmm, and does anyone on the right see the problem with “Citizens United”, hmmm “Onguard”? 501C3 folks are audited all the time to see that they’re following the rules (worked with several) and the same for c4, or folks applying for 501C4 status. When they proclaim themselves “anti-government” they ARE waving a red flag and begging for attention.
Actually, that would not be a bad item to consider in a true reform of the federal tax system. If we can every even get both parties in Congress to even consider such reform in the first place!!
The tax codes DO need serious revision so the IRS has a more direct and honest route to enforcement. As 99.9% of those “codes”, written in by various Congresspersons over the years are EXEMPTIONS, many covertly written to apply to a single individual or company, they DO need to go.
A friend went to work for IRS. His first assignment was catching corporate “cheats”. He did it dramatically well, and was transferred to go after drug crooks (no less greedy or criminal). That got him into a situation where he had to “disappear” for over 5 years with a hidden identity, essentially witness protection, because he was effective, and his identity was revealed to the “bad guys” by insiders in the agency.
So there is adequate reason to monitor potential tax cheats, AND protect the identity of folks working in some areas of investigation, or assisting in the “war on terror” covertly. When you know how some of these things work, it makes the ludicrous and dangerous activities of Issa and other publicity hounds with absolutely no ethical restraints, less than “patriotic”.

Tax reform is crying out to be implemented. But you won’t have the Republicans agreeing if it would strengthen the country.
