When I was a kid, lo these many years ago, it was child conventional wisdom that if you got a cut or a scrape, you got a dog to lick it. Apparently they have natural blood coagulants in their saliva. Never had one infect. However I was once bitten by a human and it broke the skin; the doctor cauterized the wound.
Saliva is naturally antiseptic, and canine saliva is more so than human. Puncture wounds are prone to festering, but dog bites are less likely to become infected than either human or cat bites.
The world is full of ‘germs’ of one kind or another. Few are any risk to us at all. A sterile environment is not a healthy one for us or our pets on an ongoing basis. We need to keep our immune systems heathy, which can’t happen in a sterile environment.
A mother’s (or dog’s) saliva is a perfectly good cleaning agent. My daughter gave me a card for mother’s day, with a spray bottle on the front: All organic, pure unadulterated Mom spit. Thanks for the humiliation, Mom, I love you anyway no matter what!

Dog saliva has more curative powers then human… Certainly won’t add germs!

’Scuse me! A kiss is better than anything except , perhaps, a band aid. Love conquers everything.

I remember she kissed his boo-boo after he scraped it on a rusty bolt from the toilet. You’d think she would have learned from that episode.
