Whenever I can’t think of someone’s name who appears to know me, I ask, “How do you spell your name?” I was so embarrassed when someone once answered: “J-O-H-N.”

I once read that if you can’t remember someone’s name, you should introduce yourself humbly as if you’re the one who’s forgettable, and the other person will likely reciprocate. I’ve tried this and it has yet to work.

P.S. this is why reunions have name badges with your yearbook photo on them. That, and the unending stream of “OMG what was up with my HAIR!” moments.

Yes, badges. Otherwise, “Do I know you?” offered in a querulous tone.

When I went to my 40th high school reunion last year, I didn’t expect anyone to remember me except the 3 people I was there to see but instead there were quite a few people who remembered me.

I went to my 15th and 25th high-school reunions. At one of them, a guy I had never really known personally, but who had been our much-adored football star, peered at the yearbook picture on my badge, looked me up and down, and said, “You’ve improved.”

I have trouble remembering names or faces. Luckily, my husband makes elaborate name tags with yearbook photos for his high-school class (‘52) and mine (’53). The only problem is trying to SEE the dang things without being too obvious.

When I don’t remember someone I just humbly say. “It’s been a while and I apologize but I don’t recall your name.” I don’t feel at all embarrassed because its true.

Cute idea this week, though it isn’t quite as fun as I had hoped.

Most of the people I actually knew in college I’ve gotten in touch with via Facebook in the last few years.

All the Justice Department has to do is read Hedley’s tweets, and they don’t even need a subpoena for that.

I have a similar problem. Classmates tell me I never change. Even though they call me by name (no badges), I don’t believe them because its been 63 years since we graduated.

That’s shy whenever I run into someone from the old days I automatically tell them my name; to do otherwise is just arrogant.
