Re: timing chains-AGREED! What a cruel joke played on us by the car manufacturers when they went to timing belts and interference valves. Replacing timing belt costs $300 – $600 or more and if you don’t do it in time, lose your motor! Back when I drove Chevettes, it cost me $20 for the part and I could change it myself in 40 minutes at the side of the road. AND my engine would not blow up if it went while running.I can barely wait til I can buy my first electric car- only ONE moving part to the engine!

Ha Ha! That’s for sure! And you can also call the truck “The Black Hole”… cuz now B&T will be sucked in, and so will some of the moolah… But, hey! They’re getting a steak and a lobster dinner out of it, according to Brad!—BTW, it’s kinda Luann “sacrilege”, but today’s One Big Happy’s last panel kinda sums it up, as well…

Pmark-…I would do such things … but I can’t figure out how to scan on the Mac.

It’s really quite simple. You click on the little calendar just above the comic to its right. That takes you in the archives. Start going through the strips in the archive one by one. Voilá! You are now scanning on the Mac.

That’s how I do it, except I use a PC.

Brad, you are so lucky! Your bride-to-be is as much a mechanic as you are, she is gorgeous, and has such a positive attitude when it comes to TJ’s schemes… She even gets along with your little sis and the folks. Quite a find!

Greg might be hinting at a bit of hearing loss in today’s strip when she mixes up awful and awesome… and hearing something about the timing belt when TJ spoke about timing.

Watch Out Brad! Sure TJ is a good friend, but he’s also a con man. I think TJ took care of Anne Effel good, but in the past, TJ has made some bad mistakes to Brad! But hey, both Brad and TJ are maturing.

I also wanted to write I KNEW Gunther didn’t have a Father. I just can’t imagine Gunther’s father being someone like R. Lee Ermey. Gunth is a person that’s caring, sensitive, and romantic. I don’t think EVER Gunth has cursed or swore in this strip! Thus, that’s why I said if Gunth’s dad was a military person, it might’ve been Air Force. LOL. When I went to boot camp in the AF, our drill instructors could curse and swear at us, but they couldn’t hit AF recruits or call their AF recruits, “S.O.B.s.” I had a cousin who got out of Paris Island, SC and the USMC sergeant punched or threw a piece of furniture at my cousin a few months ago. Our military is volunteer, but if you want to be the meanest, toughest, and roughest military person, be a Marine. I barely got out of Basic Training almost 30 years ago and I do respect Marines that go through that hell called basic training.

Finally, I knew R Lee Ermey was an actual USMC sergeant in real life and he played the role in “Full Metal Jacket.” In that year R. Lee Ermey received a nomination for that role Full Metal Jacket that year from the Golden Globes that year.

TJ might be better off missing the busy season when he is first starting out anyway. Slower business will give him more of a chance to work the bugs out, figure out what he can and can’t do, plus won’t give him unrealistic expectations about his income.

Unlike a lot of you, I am a woman who does not like to deal with really dirty stuff (like car parts). That’s how my dad talked me out of continuing in study of engineering when I was preparing for college. He said that my aspirations to be an architect were out of the question because it was very competitive even for a man; I could only hope to go into “Mechanical” (back in 1955 that meant dirty car parts to me). I later became one through self taught studies, but I continued with drafting in college (in ink) and (long story) but I did pretty well- still hate to do anything to a car, tho’ ;-D

There is quite a lot of room for making him a better person without making him not TJ anymore. Asking, even cajoling, friends who enjoy working on cars to work on his truck is not a horrible thing to do, not expecting it would be entirely out of character.
