I can’t say that I’ve ever understood the appeal of the beach. Little to look at unless you’re going to ogle the scantily clad, too bright to read without eye strain, often uncomfortably hot, and sand, sand, everywhere. Give me a big city, or the mountains, or a canyon, or rolling farmland… Or if it’s going to be the ocean, give me big waves crashing violently against sea cliffs, or a cacophony of birds and sea critters going about their daily activities. But lie around the beach? It’s on par with watching golf or NASCAR.

People go there to get a tan and swim or fish or get in a boat. Kids play in the sand near the shore to build sand castles.

Our local AAA baseball team has a few Wednesday afternoon games. They are always packed on the sunny days.
