Ima loves guns more than children. Don’t you wish there was a law preventing the sale of guns to felons? How do you suppose we could get one of those…

And in Louisiana, a convicted felon had been released into the wild after he was found to have in his possession an AK47 with 30 round clip and a 40caliber pistol. He was initially arrested but because of new legislation in the state, the judge released him and his guns. Now, Gov. Jindel is scrambling to prevent the release of ALL felons who had been returned to prison for violating federal rules on ex-cons with guns. There are people who should be released. There was a California man who stole a bicycle and it was his third arrest so he was sent to jail for life under “3 Strikes” law giving long terms to habitual offenders. However, I don’t trust people in charge to discern between the dangerous and the unlucky without a lot of oversight.I would be interested in what our California residents think.Respectfully,C.

Having moved many problem bears back into the woods, and also removed many “problem criminals” from the “streets”, the problem in much of the U.S. today is that MINOR criminals ARE taking up space in jails, while more serous folks are getting back out. It is getting so expensive to run the system, because of “mandatory sentencing” that states, and counties, are going broke trying to maintain jails.

Pushing the costs down to the county level of incarceration is stupid, as for example in our county, we can’t begin to keep up with the increasing cost of jail space for “minor” criminals. And yes, “three strikes” laws should ONLY apply to violent felonies.

That’s where the Bear from the flag of the Great State of California should be.

How can you even begin to make comments like this, and then have the nerve to call yourself a Christian? If you even bothered to read the Gospels you would see a Christ tha twas loving, kind, compassionate, and above all non judgmental and forgiving. And then you come up with such a post?

    Sad, truly , truly sad!!

Surely you wouldn’t give a murderer two passes?

Bruce: in part, PTSD, you don’t have to be able to hear out of both ears (hard of hearing from explosions isn’t deaf, 90 decibel loss in some frequencies left ear, 45 decibel loss in the right, but retained high, and some low frequency hearing at a better level) but for years I confirmed most of what people said by speech reding (lip reading), finally got my first hearing aid (programable) 20 years ago, now wear two. Fibromyalgia lly only partial disability (despite constant neuromuscular pain in the whole body) but got much worse over time, neuropathy from nerve damage in “incidents” like helicopter crashes, as well as Agent Orange exposure also took time to develop.

I spent seven years in law enforcement after the Army, then had to make some changes due to the onset/increasing impacts, of those disabilities. Actually, retired several years earlier than planned because of a change in working conditions that aggravated the PTSD (cubicles and an office instead of out in “the field” 80 % of the time, led to conflicts as result of “startle response”). Actually, for quite a while, the “self control” required for law enforcement actually HELPED with the PTSD, and what for most folks would be “stressors”, like hanging off cliffs in rescues, was actually quite “calming”, as it demanded full attention!

So, like many disabled vets, “getting by” is “different strokes”. BTW, a good friend who lost both legs at the hips in ‘Nam (RPG) was put in office jobs for a long time, then finally got a field job. When he went as far as he could in his chair, he’d just jump out and go on into the woods etc, wherever he was, on his HANDS!

So, that’s the “long story, short”.

^P.S., also have “pre-type II”, but glucose levels have been much better since losing 35 pounds, and getting more active in my new home (also helps the fibro if I don’t “go stupid”, and do too much, which of course, I do!) Chi Gung and Tai Chi also helps with that “calm heart”, and meditation.

Also, btw, when first getting VA help in 95, was only 50%, a shrink VA provided was GREAT! My “flashbacks” went from 30-40 a week to 3-4 a month!! Still get them sometimes, but I can NOT get stuck in traffic, or a slow line at the grocery store! (my wife does 90% of the trips to the market, or Wal Mart etc if we got to “the big city”, where I may help shop, but head for the parking lot while she stands in the checkout line!)
