What a visually beautiful variation to the storytelling. A long courtroom drama can run the risk of becoming monotonous – a lot of text, talking heads and static sets. Now, we have the absolute opposite, with dark tones, highlights, movement and a complete flip-over of emotion.Hats off.

The crowd knows, I think, that trying to fuss with him to get him turned around would inter fear with what is going on and they would miss it. Good thought. Let him go. Rectal opening.Blessed Be

“Unfortunately, since the trial is a sham, it doesn’t really matter if people are invested in the outcome or not.”Interesting. So, since the trial is guaranteed to result in everyone’s death, no one’s invested in the outcome? What other kind of investment do you have in mind?"

I understand his attitude completely. There are circles of concern, and circles of influence. Imagining that something is in your circle of concern, when it is outside your circle of influence is either masochism or mere voyeurism. Even if he’s wracked with concern over the course of the trial, what can he do? Will his rapt attention and ulcers affect the council? Not in the least. I agree with Doc Rat—great change of pace, showing crowd reaction, and turning the intensity of the participants upside-down.

Take a deep breath, and repeat to yourself: This is only a comic strip. This is only a comic strip. If the cartoonist wants a character to be a smoker, that is his choice. Get a grip on your anti-smoking attitude and throttle it good, or at least smack it around good for having bad manners.

LOL! My first thought about today’s strip, after chuckle, was that Aaron was taking a small poke at his own strip. How many readers have looked over Endtown’s political highjinks and social difficulties and thought, “Aww man, I need brainless escapism, not this thought-provoking stuff!”

My second thought was a bit of chagrine: my wife watched the election debates, while I pointedly ignored them. Probably not the most farsighted decision I’ve made.

This is the same kind of attitude that has made our democracy the mess it is now. Most people don’t care, don’t pay attention and don’t vote. Elections are decided by the minority that does care and we have legislatures dominated by Jacob Jackrabbits and Octavius Allgoods.

The curious thing is that the High Council has bent over backward to get people to pay attention to this trial. Why??? Is this meant to be a showcase for one of the two points of view? If so, have the proceedings been edited to favor one point of view? Are they trying to spark a civil war within Endtown? If so, who would benefit from this? Does Velda have plans with how to unite people in the aftermath? The other possibility that comes to mind is that the High Council is enacting a ban on mutant food products and having people watch Holly, Linda and Maude sentenced to death, and possibly executed, serves their purpose.Definitely worth following in my opinion.

While I agree with the bird, experience has shown me that often by the time the public knows the outcome is signed and sealed. It makes me feel it is useless to object. Ask yourself how many laws are passed and taxes enacted without your knowledge. Once passed are very difficult to reverse. Laws that you thought were passed for something you wanted have been changed in a backroom to make them ineffective. Locally the moving of the county line was raised to increase taxes. Officials said they would listen to public opinion. Sitting there listening they knew the action had already been enacted and had no intention of changing it. In this democracy the public has very little say. I guess people feel like they might as well do what they want because they can’t change anything.

Perhaps Dora is not aware WHY these things are being auctioned off. She may not know of Mr. Neathery’s medical issues, or how these auctions fit into that.

Guess who is back.OUR favorite malcontent.DORA DINGLE.(Be careful. Aaron may smack back.)However he is an artist so I would do it for him. What do prefer Right Hand or Left Hand?AND PLEASERemember areas of the country are in a drought so burn things in safety. Don’t burn some ones house down. But remember you are loved. And Benton, Why leave? Does the life you see illustrated frustrate you, BORE you?You only watch old reruns of Green Acres. Andy Griffith. Father Knows Best. Real life bother you. It takes time to build the story line based on four panels a day. I have vented that frustration before. It takes a week or better to get the point across. And you think this is BAD language? Watch HBO, Showtime, go see a current movie. I watched one and got to see Jane Hathaway’s boobies. If “UP YOURS” bothers you too bad. It is mainstream now. I can remember when it was first said on TV. SHOCKING it was. I think it was All in the Family.I am not concerned. You will be back. You cant escape it. It will draw you back eventually.I think that is what Mr. Neathery is pointing out. He reversed the mirror on us. Like now on TV all we hear about is how US intelligence dropped the ball on the bombers. He was checked and put in a file. No further action needed. It would be a hard country to live in if every time one pointed out someone as suspicious you ended up with micro cameras and FBI up your butt.I can see it now. OMG he bought a pressure cooker he is making a bomb. I have one and the training to make one is the FBI coming to visit? Gosh I hope so I have so much to tell them.

    Rarely do I comment

I just enjoy the work of Aaron and read a few comments.I enjoy most like Level Head, Dirty Old Lady Jenner and TSOJ.

I “think” it adds to the whole experience …

“Our” little community is usually very supportive and friendly and I look forward to reading everyday.

This is a Adult Comic and has the adult subtleties as has been pointed out before…

My dad smokes ( I CANT STAND IT ) My best friend smokes ( also CANT STAND IT ) Every TV Show / Movie / Magazine / Book / REAL LIFE has smoking / foul language ( while I have yet to see any “real” foul language here ) It is a fact of life and if the small amount of Real Life injected in to a fantasy comic strip that in essence shows real human life, all be it a mutated future life, it is part of life….Unless you live in a cave as Veteran stated this is life and is mainstream here and now….

Looking forward to more keep it coming Aaron

    Thanks

All the comments about Jake and his smoking. Doesn’t anyone besides me wonder how the heck he got up there in the first place? Did Allgood put him up there to “put him in his place”?Jake did mutate to a jackrabbit, not a flea.

Unfortunately the Man-Dog walking out is a good measure of present society. I hate to admit it, but I do get upset when they cut into my shows with a “breaking news bulletin”, don’t think it would bother me as much if they didn’t just drone on saying the same news over and over again.

The theater seems to be quite full.

If one or two are not entertained that is understandable. He at least fairly politely and quickly makes himself scarce.

Unlike one here who threatens to commit violence on the cartoonist.

Please vote for EndTown and DocRat.

Please feel free to vote against anyone you feels takes it too far. Like threatening to commit violence to someone over a comic strip. (There is a nice little button on their posts that says “Flag”. You like me can use it.

Look, as far as the language is concerned, I don’t enjoy reading certain words either. There are alternatives, especially in a comic strip, and Aaron uses “comic cussing” when it suits him. But if you’ve been back to the beginning of Endtown (Jan 2009 here at GoComics) you know the language has been consistent from the beginning. Some words are replaced by symbols, others are spelled right out. If you can’t take it, I understand. Maybe I shouldn’t either because it does bug me. But the writing and art are so good I’m staying in Endtown as long as it lasts.

I want to take you all away from the heroics of Jacob Jackrabbit to inform you of the happenings of another famous rabbit. I am talking about Usagi Yojimbo or to be more precise, it’s creator Stan Sakai. I was informed this morning that Stan’s wife, Sharon, was rushed to the hospital. I guess it is pretty bad. For any of you who are fans of his work, you may want to keep him in your thoughts today and send a prayer for his wife.He posted about it on his Facebook page.Sharon. Gambare!

I see today’s strip mostly as a microcosm pointing out how people are more interested in being entertained than informed, although it’s hard to miss the parallel with posters who would rather follow a story arc that lasts four panels instead of four months (or more). Why read “Dracula” when you can watch a “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” rerun?
