The only thing worse than the story upon which this cartoon is based, are the things women risked in order terminate an unwanted pregnancy before Roe vs. Wade.^The states making abortion illegal won’t end abortion, they’ll simply make it more dangerous, and put more women and doctors into corporate run factory prisons.^Everyday we hear stories of children who are walking among us that are not getting what they need. Not enough food, not enough healthcare, not enough education, not enough time quality time with loving parents because so many parents are overworked and underpaid… but the same people who want to cut back on education, healthcare, nutritional aid, etc, demand we make people who can’t afford a child, who may hate the child when it is born, who simply can’t take care of another human being, to do so.^Is this is going to be a way to punish people for having sex. If you’re not willing or able to take care of a child, celibacy is to become the only legal solution. But what if the woman is raped? Does she then become a unwilling accomplice to the crime of pregnancy? Shall we reinstitute fornication laws? ^It would be great if our society was loving, compassionate and financially secure enough that every child conceived could be born into a loving community, to be raised by its parents, or adopted by others. But as the GoComics forum commentators show daily, our society is divided, financially stressed, and way too often, mean to one another, even cruel.^I hope the man on whom this cartoon is based, AND his staff, get the full punishment the law can provide. I also hope that women who are in the same situation of poverty and need that his previous victims, patients is too generous, can find a safer alternative.^I hate this topic, I hate how politicians use it to divide us and to inflame tempers. I hate how it makes us look away from things we need to do, things we can agree upon and cooperate on, and instead makes too many people want to have nothing to do with ANYONE who thinks the way that “HE/SHE/YOU/THEY” think. It’s definitely not good for children, born or not.Respectfully, and sadly,C.

I abhor the thought of killing unborn children, but I know the reasons why abortion is legal and support it to some degree. Because I respect other people’s moral objections, I don’t feel that taxpayer money should fund it except in cases where there is a medical condition or pending legal action.^Rape or incest resulting in pregnancy, and crimes resulting in harm to the unborn should have greatly increased penalties that run consecutive to other penalties.^After the first trimester, tax money should not be used except in atypical pregnancies where the female could reasonably be expected to not know or understand her condition, or in cases of medical condition or pending legal action.^Abortions should not be performed on babies that could reasonably be expected to survive childbirth at their current state of development.^I know some of that is arbitrary, but most things are, and it’s just a suggestion.

“Are Christians still murdering Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan?”

Really doc, what a narrow minded attitude you have. We are making the country safe for democracy, didn’t you know that? We’ve been doing it for decades now, certainly you can see how much better off they are now. Geesh, get with the program….

Is the five year old killed in a “drive by” of gang violence associated with poverty, supplying drugs (to a lot of wealthy Americans too), and “culturally bred hatred”, also an “abortion victim”?

Love me, or hate me for my statement, but it IS MY opinion….I have absolutely NO sympathy for a woman who endangers her life for killing her baby through a botched abortion, and even less for the abortion mills that have no regard for life!

Hello Scott,Birth control, whether through pills, shots, or the morning after pill are excellent preventatives to abortion and I wish EVERYONE felt as you do. Sadly, there are some people who would even prevent these measures. We also have a culture in which black children given up for adoption in the US are less likely to be adopted than a child from overseas, even a black one.^You may not be aware, but there are several states who are taking measures to ban abortions in the first four weeks, even if only through procedural/bureaucratic measures.^The second paragraph of your comment confused me. Are you saying your wife and you looked at adopting in the US and found the problems you mention?^The most frustrating aspect is that people like CalvinHobbes think that because I’m prochoice it means I am ANTI life. And Deerflatner seems to think I’m even worse that Calvin does.My “problem” is that in my definition of being pro-life, the quality of life in which a child is to be born needs to be considered. I am actually in agreement with CalvinHobbes in that more than one abortion per person seems unnecessary unless there is a medical reason involved.^Every child born is a new promise for our world. Another Edison, Einstein, or Pasteur. Every child born is also another mouth to feed, body to clothe, and mind to educate. I love children. I have seen dying children and dead children. I have seen abused children, and disabled children. I prefer laughing, happy children.^Give me five years of an America that can take care of the children and adults who are already here without anyone going unnecessarily hungry, uneducated, or without health care, and I will be more supportive of efforts to limit unnecessary/frivolous abortions.Thank you for your thoughtful words. This topic often brings out the worst in people and your tone and contribution was much appreciated.Respectfully,C.

I asked a friend of mine if Abelard was a great philosopher, and he said, “Well, yes and no….”

And there are many priests who have given pedophilia a bad name but how many want to accuse the entire Catholic Church?

Considering states are trying to “ban abortions” at a time when the women may not yet know they’re even pregnant, just having missed a single period, and they then HAVE a period that eight weeks later, are they subject to arrest and imprisonment for obviously aborting a “baby”, ’er, excuse me POSSIBLY fertilized egg??

Okay, no registering firearms, but now women must register, and be in a database with the state so “leave us alone” governments on the right can track her ovulation cycle, and arrest her if she buys tampons after six weeks from her last period?

The “religious” have gone from “faithful” to dangerously stupid, not just ignorant. (And well, they obviously will bring back stoning to punish the ladies!)

Wake up America!! There is no safe abortion in this country. Check out Operation Rescue’s research to find the number of women who have died in America in these “safe” clinics.

There SHOULD be more coverage of this case, since it shows that, when safe, legal abortions are denied, women will turn to back alley butchers like Gosnell. Not sure why the anti-abortion crowd is so anxious to make that point, but, hey ….

BTW; from “media reporting”, this dude is a total quack in ALL respects of his operations, NOT “an abortion doctor”. But hey, if Lanza can be the NRA poster boy, or Zimmerman, I guess the “pro-life” folks can use this crazy.

This is a good example of illegal abortion, which is all that will be left when the Christian Taliban is through imposing their beliefs on us all.
