Gun sales are booming (haha). As the mouthpiece for the gun manufactureres, the NRA has achieved its only goal.

The problem is that the Obama administration now claims that universal background checks can’t work without universal registration, which is currently illegal and with good reason.

" Anyone who needs high capacity ammo magazines and assault weapons is too incompetent to own guns.".Nobody “needs” high capacity magazine and scary looking “assault weapons”. Nor do people need SUVs, large screen TVs, cable television service etc..What’s your point?

@Bruce4671 Since the results you reported seemed so different from what I’ve heard from actual servinig law enforcement officials, I had to follow your link. There is no evidence 15,000 current or former police officers responded to that on-line survey. They say themselves: “as verified by a qualifying question at the beginning of the survey”. The only thing certian is that the respondents landed on that website and answered the questions. Wayne LaPierre could have been one of those 15,000. They don’t indicate they had any way of proving the validity of the answers to their “qualifiying question”.

Mr. LaPierre is not doing the NRA or our nation any service.^According to Louisiana, it is Unconstitutional for felons to be deprived of their guns.^http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2013/03/second_judge_rules_that_law_fo.html^Last month, a man with a felony record was arrested with a 40 caliber pistol and an AK 47 with a 30 round magazine. If the judge’s ruling is upheld all felons arrested for possessing a firearm may be retroactively released. Here’s the link to that story.^http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2013/03/new_orleans_judge_rules_statut.html^Folks need to have info in order to make intelligent decisions.Respectfully,C.

Back when in our “exclusive federal jurisdiction National Park”, loaded firearms were prohibited, we made a traffic stop and the guy had a loaded 45 on the seat, which he was initially reaching for when advised "further movement would limit your life expectancy’.(not phrased quite that way)

I took the weapon, and when his initial identification didn’t "check out’, I asked him to repeat his SS number. He, like most, automatically stated his REAL social security number, and immediately realized he’d screwed up.

When the teletype stopped running two days later (didn’t have computers in those days), we transferred him to federal marshals as he was wanted on 9 homicide warrants around the country, and numerous bank robbery charges from the FBI.

The point being, even with the “primitive” abilities to check, WHEN THE LAW ALLOWED, a man with a loaded weapon who wasn’t supposed to have one, ended up spending the rest of his life in prison, because it WAS that firearm restriction, that led to his arrest.

Yes, I support registering firearms and their owners (like New Zealand does), and making that record PERMANENT, not just for 24 hours as the restricted “Brady Bill” now allows. We register cars, and drivers in this country, in ALL FIFTY STATES, and the record is permanent, and leads to many people committing CRIMINAL ACTS getting arrested on outstanding warrants. Doing the same for firearms is the LEAST we can do to honor that “Well regulated” part of the Constitution, which even Scalia and the CONSERVATIVES ON SCOTUS verified IS the law of the land in “D.C. vs Heller”. Yes, we have the right to own firearms for personal protection IN THE HOME, said the decision, but it did NOT SAY “any place, any time, anyone, can have unregulated firearms”.

That’s what the gun manufacturers were paying him to say in 1999. What?

    ansonia said, “Benson is confused.”

LaPierre said, “No loopholes anywhere for anyone.”

    Is English your first language?
