You know, I love Jeff, but he’s never been a teacher….Not having the answer key is no problem at all. Just ask a couple of the A students what the answers are….Even if a couple are wrong, (And believe me, other students will call them out on it!), it will stimulate discussion of why, and every one will learn more than they would have in the first place……BTW, just because you are the teacher doesn’t mean you can’t be humble at times like that…It’s your job as a teacher to show how to react and recover from such things…You think you’re teaching math, science or Language arts….? What you are really doing is modeling how to live a life…You’re on stage, everybody in the room is looking at you…If you can’t be real when you mess up, stay away from teaching……Kids are screwed up enough already….

In the 50s I can’t remember a test that the teacher didn’t create her/himself. She should know the answers.

I rather like this strip because of Caufields statement.

Good comment, Varnes… : ) Every great teacher that I ever had always said they were constantly learning from their students (and that was one of the things they loved about it.)

I had some teachers like Ms. Varnes. They were the best!

This teacher is either lazy, unqualified, or both? When I can’t find my answer key, I grab the smartest persons paper and grade it while verifying the answers. Voila, I have an answer key with all work shown. Also, I’m smart enough to scan it onto my laptop so that all I need is a printer.

She may not have created the test. It may have come with the textbook or have been created by another teacher or assistant.

Caulfield’s response is classic, and can be applied to life as well as school. Whether Jef has been a teacher is irrelevant; he has a far clearer grasp of what is important in life than most teachers I have known.

You can’t cancel something you’ve had everyone take already.

A teacher doesn’t WORK at his job, he guides the critical thinking of his herd. Sometimes the herd can’t think their ass out of a canoe! No offense to the non-thinkers in this gathering of ‘commenting thinkers’… Just thinking……………

I like the reactions of the kids, the ones who felt they would have gotten A’s, or who studied hard for the quiz are disappointed, those who didn’t study, or thought they would have gotten a C or worse, are thrilled. What surprises me is the ambivalence of some in the classroom. I guess they figured themselves for a B all along, or less than a B, and would be very good at Poker.

If the teacher can’t answer the questions without a key there is something seriously wrong with the teacher or the test!

The reactions from the students tell you who was wanting an A and who was looking at a D… pretty funny.
