It’s very rare I get to comment at the top of strip (as opposed to one of the last), so I wanna be the first to say GOOD MORNING EVERYONE (and that includes Vista Bill, whenever he gets here)!I love these old school villain reunions (though I know that some of them aren’t that old). Stiletta has thrown down a gauntlet that is reminiscent of the last Big Boy story, and if this is going to be a sub-plot like Team Tracy made the Moon Maid story out to be, I’m along for it wholeheartedly. I do feel that yes, once you put a lotta A-List villains together, they kinda become B-Listers, but I just love seeing them in the strip regardless.I think Blackjack (my favorite new baddie by the current team) will be their downfall. But is seems to me, that while Gould was noted for his “grotesques”, Team Tracy have new villains noted for their quirks. And since they do acknowledge the continuity, I ain’t gonna argue.Have a happy, everyone!

I was going to say, is Stiletta becoming a female Big Boy Caprice? Sounds like she just put out a contract on Tracy.

Interesting development. I didn’t think there were going to be any significant consequences to this story. But Stiletta has set in motion some potential assassination attempts against Tracy. This could be a very big deal down the road.

Hm. I don’t see this Josiewhales icehole, or his unappreciative comments. I think you scared him off. And if so, thank you.

Ah, the Jackie Gleason show! Those wonderful days when you could turn on a TV and acutally see something worth watching.

Current story line: Stilleta’s comments have been taken both as a “contract” as well as a “threat” (a “gift” for the perpetrator’s “beneficiaries”?), I am of the opinion that this beer bash is breaking up for now. I think this is the end of this storyline, for the moment. (Remember that, in German, the four letter word, “gift,” means POISON!)If the party is finally breaking up, then hopefully, Moon Maid can start tomorrow! And yes: I think Frank Fontaine would be great – Joe the Bartender (Jackie Gleason) was nothing without him! (Jackie Gleason was great – don’t get me wrong – but the star of that skit was always Crazy Guggenheim)

Now, comments I typed yesterday:“brownceb” made two excellent points. Slow starts, sudden stops. And the comparison between “graphic novel” and a comic strip. One thing, though: I don’t see anywhere near the number of comments on other strips that Dick Tracy gets each day. Not only do we get 24 hours to tear apart every set of three panels, but there are more of us doing it than for any other strip!I’m wondering – since so many comments seem to spring up in the middle of the night, how many of us are seeing Dick Tracy in a newspaper in the first place? Frankly, I haven’t seen Dick Tracy in a paper since I left Chicago in the 1970s.As for the graphic novel element: I think I’m going to try that for a while. I’m a night worker, day sleeper, and it’s getting a bit old, when I go on break at one or two AM, dialing up Dick Tracy on my cell phone for today’s installment – especially since, much of the time, so little has changed from day to day.Perhaps I’ll enjoy it more if I read it, say, one week at a time.

And now, for the truly politically incorrect:I’m thinking that Sweatbox may have been one of the best villains to come out of this new team.In a way, he was classic Gould – ugly, vain, and self-obsessed.And the irony of his constant working out was not lost on me. Remember, when he wasn’t kidnapping Toad, fighting Mole, or stuffing corpses in his mausoleum, he was on that stationary bike or treadmill or something…Too bad he got knocked off so early. This was a criminal worth developing, I think.

It’s interesting that some take Stiletta’s comment as a threat, and others as an offer. After reading it at first, I took it as the latter. But thinking about it more, I see the other side’s point. I don’t what to think now.

NO QUESTION this STORY has the look, taste and smell of a quickie, fast food filler meal! All empty calories, nothing of real value.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but in the early 70s story featuring Mole, Molene and Johnny Scorn, Molene and Pouch went to a bar called “Joe’s Place”. The proprietor was a fellow called Joe Yppah (Happy spelled backwards, a Gould tradition), and he looked vaguely like our current Joe the Bartender, who has shown up here and at the sushi shop. Clearly, Joe Staton has modeled this guy after Jackie Gleason, but I wonder if Chester Gould had a similar idea in mind?

Thrill of the chase ? That’s total bull UnoWAT ******* what crooks I met & know are driven by 1st LAZINESS won’t work / 2nd greed then stupidity comes in then rebel, con, foolish pride, lack of a god or gods in their lives. A very limited moral compass keeps them on course ////// that IS why they are in jail. ////////// I knew a crook that worked his butt off at everything but earning an honest paycheck got super rich off drugs & guns and admitted that he was lazy. He’s now dead. Just like those two criminals that blew up Boston! The thrill of seeing a child die is STUPID. Comrades in crime will face GOD one day even the ones that have everything. When I was young I went to jail on a few occasions, I’ve been shot before, a good buddy of mine robbed a bank; I could go on & on, but believe me the thrill of the chase does not top the list. Sorry for getting so emotional now I’ll go back and read the comments. And yes Avenger I am l(ing)OL.

Ray TolerI agree. I also enjoy getting the “daily dose.” My comparison of the daily strip to the graphic novel was two-fold. One, if the story was contained in a graphic novel, I believe that a lot of the nit-picking we see on this site would not occur. Some people feel that their calling in life is to tear other people down and when they have 24 hours to pick apart three panels, they will live up to their calling no matter what. I call it “running off” at the mouth (to put it gently). Two, if most of the work our team Tracy did in the past was graphic novels, then doing a daily strip may require a transition into different procedures of communicating the story. Don’t misunderstand. I can not be more thrilled with the team. My only complaint is the slow starts and sudden stops. For this site to blame TMS does not hold water. (BTW, I don’t think the team ever blamed TMS.)

Allan Arbus, who played psychiatrist Maj. Sidney Freeman on the popular show M*A*S*H, has died aged 95. WOW, didn’t know he was so old! God bless him, he looked great till the end. Loved the show & his character was always a hoot.

fhofmann – MM starts tomorrow – is just a speculation of mine; it seems that the current conversation has pretty much run out of steam. If it ever had any.john rusco, avenger09, and others – “the thrill of the chase” – when I first read that line, I thought it was Blackjack, but Jones clearly indicated it was BB eyes, which again, does not make any sense.brownceb, ray toler, and others – interesting thoughts on graphic novels vs. comic strips. My problem, and I think I’m not alone, is that this conversation didn’t seem to reveal anything until today. And I have said before, and other posters today have also said (re: Joe the bartender), that this bunch is crazy having this meeting here, at a bar, with all the potential “ears.”ray toler – thanks for the clip. Oddly enough, it linked to other drawings, as well, showing many instances where I had come to the opinion that Honeymoon also had “horns,” just that those “horns” were consistently hidden by her hair.As for the Moon Maid death scene, now I see just how difficult it is for this team, or any team, to “resurrect” the Moon Maid.On the other hand, it seems we have “resurrected” some villains over the years – oh, what the heck, it is just a comic strip!

paralysis by analysis – BB Eyes calls crime a “profession”; yet Jones says that’s not her profession. With her family history and all this talk of revenge, if crime is not her profession, then what is? The conversation still doesn’t make any sense – but that has already been pointed out by others today…

    @tsull2121@avenger09

Wow, I didn’t realize that my little aside comment would generate so much discussion.

I apologize that my original comment was a bit disjointed. That the strip draws a low of comments either positive or negative speaks to the passion of the posters. That the strip now draws predominantly positive comments in opposition to the last couple of years of Locher’s term speaks to the popularity of the current team. So there is no argument. You are both correct.

Avenger09 is also correct that if you take the strip back to the beginning of this chat board and a previous Dick Tracy chat board before GoComics (morrow, Sydney, MPH, and others on the current board were participants as was I. Although I went by a handle in those earlier internet days, I honestly can’t remember now what it was. It may have been Buster44 but I am not sure) there were periods of very favorable comments for Locher and periods of very unfavorable comments.

Besides being a passionate bunch, we are also sometimes a fickle bunch.

my question: if crime is not Jones’ profession, what is? tsull2121’s answer, a professional knife thrower for the circus. my response: since she is now plotting first degree murder, doesn’t that make her a criminal, anyway?

I always think it’s great that “our” chat board has so many comments practically every single day, and I’m glad to be a part of it. But today, I want to give a tip of the hat to good ol’ Gasoline Alley. They usually average about a dozen comments per day, but today with the storyline of Walt Wallet visiting the Old Comics Home and seeing a lot of old “retired” comic characters, there are a record (?) 41 responses so far. Congrats to them!

So are you saying the thrill of the chase is what drives criminals? If I’m wrong, I’ve only believed a myth while trying to be held accountable to the supreme most powerful thing in the universe. However, if I am correct in what I think is true, then next for the redeemed is bliss. Some people worship the sun because it to them is the most powerful source possible. Others worship the one that created the sun, but my household adores the Son.
