Wally: What should we do today? The Louvre? Versailles?
Joan: I can't believe it's our last day!
Joan: Let's just walk along the Seine and pretend we're a couple of people who just fell in love...
Wally: We won't have to pretend.
Aww…I am so happy for them. This couldn’t be anybetter…..(except if the airlines found their luggageand gave them a 1 night’s stay at a free hotel forthe trouble. An extra night in Paris) We can dreamcan’t we? :-)
I’ve been to Paris 3 times in my life, and have yet to make it to Versailles. Too many other things to do (headed up by walking and people watching – plus eating!).
When I was in Paris we spent one day at the Louvre and barely saw any of it. That place is huge! Versailles you can see in a day, but I didn’t think it was that impressive. Instead go see Sainte Chapelle on a sunny day.
If I were to visit France, I think I’d be more interested in the country/rural parts than Paris. True, Paris does have its charm, but really, it’s just like every other big city.
Although, I wouldn’t say no to touring Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre, and perhaps a couple of other places.
nice to see how a comic strip invokes so many comments. Almost made it to ‘For better or Worse’s level of interest. I’m inspired to try to do their trip now too.
I haven’t been in the Louvre and Versailles either. I keep it for when I’m retired. But I did end up in the Musée Grévin once. My American girlfriend wanted to see Impressionist paintings, and insisted on asking the way herself …
I was there in early October, if I’m remembering right (it was almost 30 years ago), and on the last day I went early in the morning to see the cemetary at Montmartre. The vendors were putting out fresh produce, including grapes that were close to the size of golf balls and smelled heavenly.
We saw Mont Ste. Chapelle, the Notre Dame, got up close to the Eiffel Tower, but the Louvre seemed way too big for us to attempt (though we were only 43 then). We did see the Jeu de Paume, a much smaller museum of contemporary art – just right for us. Incidentally, this was in 1978, and we got around fifteen days, partly in an off-season ski resort in Switzerland and partly in Paris, with transatlantic transportation, room, and continental breakfasts, for $600 apiece, if we could get our hides up to Boston. That was a fantastic rate, even then. Haven’t seen anything like it since.
Are the two of them alone attempting to be beatnik-cool with all the black?? Hard to do when Wally’s first impulse is to wipe drool from her mouth when she wakes up. Geesh! That bird has more ‘cool’ in its lil’ beret then either of these two.

I think they’re going to take home a reminder of Paris that’s unwrapped in 9 months. Don’t forget Thursday’s and Friday’s strips.

It’s a raspberry beret (the kind you find in a second hand store)

Awww shucks..I’m not much of a city fan. Palaces and the like are silent braggarts built at someone else’s expense. Gardening and food I like.

I would like to see parts of Canada and the US that I haven’t seen before venturing overseas, esp in this day and age.

Although, I WOULD love to see Australia and New Zealand, but it takes FOREVER to get there I hear.
