Same old hypocrisy. Benson never made a peep when Bush ran up the deficit on his wars. How many jobs did that create?Tax revenue is at a 50 year low as a percentage of national income. Anyone who wants to talk about the deficit without acknowledging that fact is not being honest.

@Uncle Joe – Those wars fueled all sorts of jobs, mostly in the Military/Defense industry (Planes, bombs, tanks, etc.) but also in Support services: Blackwater, Food contractors, transportation, rebuilding contracts, the list goes on.

I’m not a fan of the wars; don’t get me wrong…But personally I much prefer the government spend it’s money on goods and services rather then on passing out goodies to anyone that doesn’t feel like they are getting their fair share.

Bush has been gone for more then 4 years now and the libs still use him as the excuse for why Obama’s failed policies haven’t improved the lot in life of the lazy and the stupid.

You don’t see Republicans griping about Clinton and his demands that bankers lax up on loans to people who couldn’t afford them – Arguably the most culpable in the housing bubble. You don’t see us blaming LBJ for his idiotic war on poverty as the reason this country is in it’s morass. Give it a rest on the Bush front.

The path to American greatness is paved with Freedom and a sense of Self sufficiency. The path to Mediocrity that we seem to be on now is paved with Dependence and a sense of entitlement.

Then the Bush tax cuts, that undermined the Clinton/Gingrich balanced budget, SHOULD have eliminated the National Debt in no time.Right?

Lisa Benson will always blame Obama for everything because she’s a tea party Republican first and a cartoonist second.

As far as the “generational theft” goes, Ms. Benson is doing her part to disseminate a new GOP buzzword. It’s intention is to deflect the fact that there are a bunch of people TODAY who were stolen from beginning back in Reagan’s time.

Lowering taxes. when they’re close to as low as they are now, has never increased tax revenue, let alone been “proven” to do so. When you lower your income, you get less money. With math ignorance like this, no wonder you’re a conservative!

Part time, low wage jobs are the result of unnecessary and burdensome taxes and regulations that President Obama and mostly Democratic politicians feel the need to put on Americans at every turn. They are always raising money for some scheme, not that Republican politician are much better.

You want to know why there are going to be a lot of “part-time” positions out there in the very near future? I promise you it has nothing to do with Republicans or President Bush. The PPACA is the #1 reason why businesses aren’t hiring right now, with burdensome regulations coming in a close second. When you have an artificial cap of 50 FTE’s being the benchmark for fining a company for having employees without paying for their health insurance (something they simply can’t afford), does any sane and logical person expect that to encourage people from hiring more than 49 FTE’s? Of course not. The biggest sector that’s going to be hurt is retail and fast-food. These positions typically go to low-skilled, entry-level people; most notably teens and college students. Why should an employer have to provide health care for teens who are working during the summer full-time? Business owners are in business to make a profit. That’s the purpose of owning a business. When you impede that ability to make a profit, you impede GDP growth. And the PPACA is a direct obstruction to making a profit by mandating from on-high a penalty if you don’t toe the line. Until they get rid of the employer mandate, people holding multiple part-time jobs instead of one full-time job is going to be a new norm. And that employer mandate falls right at the feet of the Democrats, and most notably, President Obama. Mechanic, you say that Obama tried to work with the Republicans to make things work. If that were true, why is it that almost every Republican bill that was passed in the House DOA in the Senate? Why didn’t Obama pick up the phone to Reid and ask for a vote? Why didn’t Biden go to Reid and say, “Bring this to a vote?” Why didn’t Obama go to the Senate and demand a Constitutionally-mandated budget every year, instead of waiting for one this year? If he worked with Republicans on the PPACA, why was there not a single Republican vote in favor of it? You’d think that if he extended a real olive branch (not the fake ones the Media would have you believe), he’d get at least one person to break ranks.Your rhetoric is fine; you’re entitled to your own opinion. But you aren’t allowed to re-write history. And yes… this economy and the mess in which it resides, rests fully at Obama’s feet. He had 4 years to help a recovery, and all he did was stop a fall that would have stopped on its own had he done nothing. He spent trillions of our dollars in his first four years that didn’t need spending. The market would have recovered on its own, and had he spent as much time focusing on the economy as he did on forcing the still-unpopular PPACA through Congress (which is now up to 1.6 trillion deficit in 10 years for this program… so much for debt neutral), we’d be running at a 4% unemployment rate and people would have insurance through their employer, not through the Nanny state. You can’t turn a blind eye to the programs that Democrats passed and Obama signed into law that are a direct obstruction to investment and business growth. Just because you don’t understand how these regulations hurt business growth doesn’t mean they don’t hurt business growth.

Obama is now “teaching how to budget”….???Obama’s 5 annual federal budget plans were proven unacceptable to both D and R in congress because Obama’s “budgets” were merely gigantic Wish Lists for good ol’Unca Sam!-“generational theft” is the exploded federal DEBT.-In the meantime, the fed policies and rules are stealing by hidden inflation from every bank account in America, the Bail-outs of Big Biz were done by secretly “stealing” from American bank account owners, along with exploding the DEBT.

@Trusted Mechanic – You really aren’t setting anything straight by regurgitating half truths.

Real Politicians learn how to reach across the aisle and get things done: Regan Managed, Clinton Managed, Even Bush managed a little. Along comes Obama (The great savior) and he is genuinely surprised that the Republicans don’t see the brilliance of his position.

Those Republicans in the house are doing exactly what their constituents want. Stopping Obama and his pack of Jakals from looting those of us who managed to weather the storm of the Great recession.

Maybe if Obama had learned to Compromise and negotiate in good faith he wouldn’t have that problem. And before you say “Prove it” I’ll point out that the Republicans gave in on tax increases for the Wealthy at the beginning of the year. Mr. Obama’s promised spending cuts never materialized. The only thing that forced him to cut a dime was the sequester.

Unlike you I don’t spout unsubstaniated claims. He never offered one actual cut. Now he is going to go back to the Republicans and ask for a raise in the debt ceiling by trying to promise this time he will actually cut the spending. I’m sure the Republicans in the house will expect him to get it in writing.

Not everyone is suffering in this economy people. Many of us who lived within our means, saved agressively, invested in our future, and borrowed sparingly are doing OK. Things could be better but we are doing OK. Obama won’t be happy until he makes sure all of us ants are suffering as badly as the grasshoppers.

In my Opinion the House Republicans are Heros. They are saving me from the theft and thuggery of the Democratic party.

@The Wolf – In a way the Military is a Jobs and Job Training program. It wouldn’t be my favorite way to reduce unemployment but it does work.

I only pointed that out in Response to Uncle Joe who was whining and sniveling about the Military spend by the Bush administration.

I’ve always been clear that I think the Military is the FIRST place we should cut. The Military Industrial complex is a vexing force in Politics and it is hard to curtail.

But I don’t want us to cut the military budget just so we can pass out more goodies to the long term unemployed, the welfare queens, and so the GAO can have lavish parties in Las Vegas.

@The Trusted Mechanic – Also it’s hard to argue that the money went to a few trusted friends when the money was spent on: Bombs, Missiles, Aircraft, Ships, Ordinance, Feeding Soldiers, etc, etc.

Yes I’m sure the business owners did very well but so did their employees: Mechanics at Boeing and Martin Marrieta did well, Cooks and packagers did well at food contract halls, etc.

I will join you in decrying any No-bid contract that the government issues by Republicans and Democrats alike. But it’s pure Crap to argue that only Bush’s special friends did well when the contracts were open for bidding. Especially when the Government needs to set aside a certain percentage of those contracts for Minority and Women owned businesses.

I know that Haliburton got some No-bid contracts ostensibly because they were the only ones that could fulfill the contract and that smells fishy to me but the rest were open for you to bid on as well. If you have proof – show it. Otherwise your just spouting suspicions and hoping someone will think they are the truth.

@TrustedMechanic – Wow!!! You really put me in my place that time.

Obama is a failed President because he looks at the Government as a means to redistribute wealth to the people he thinks deserve it.

Reagan, and to a lesser extent Bill Clinton (term 2) were successful because they looked at government as a means to remove obstacles from the people who want to think, and take risks, and invest in the future.

When the government is doing what Reagan and Clinton did, everyone benefits. Trickle down economics works.

When the government spends its time trying to force equal outcome rather then equal opportunity – Everyone suffers.

    @Ms. Ima – Well said!!!

Trickle down economics works. And not just for those at the top. If the business which employs you is doing well then most likely you will do well.

I consider myself to be in the middle class and my wife and I did great under Reagan. We also did great under Clinton II when he figured out he couldn’t use the Government as a wealth looting machine to buy favor with the government dependents.

@Trusted Mechanic – The real thrust of trickle down economics was to unfetter the: Energy, Intelligence, and Creativity of Entrepeneurs from government regulations and government looting.

Reagan’s theory was that if you let the producers keep more of their income they would invest it in new businesses and new opportunities. This in turn would create jobs and opportunities for others.

It worked well too by the way. Econcomic growth and output skyrocketed. Those of us ready to take advantage of this new found freedom thrived in this new environment. Reagan’s detractors pointed to the fact that the poor weren’t enjoying the same growth in their standard of living; which was true. But the lion’s share of us were doing much better under Reagan and we were happy. I, personally, don’t find anything morally right about holding back all of society until even the dumbest and the laziest can also enjoy the benefits. It was the Welfare queens, and the high school droppouts, and the idiots that weren’t doing better under Reagan.

It works in other places as well. Look at China where they have become more capitalistic then we are. The middle class is growing by leaps and bounds over there.

I don’t know if you are old enough to remember the Reagan years but those of us who were working and going to college at the time were feeling pretty optomistic. And this was after that Doofus Jimmy Carter had driven the economy into the ground.

Funny how Reagan managed to get it turned around by ’83.

Oh that’s right. He compromised and worked with a strongly democratic congress to make sure that both he and they got some of what they wanted.

That’s the difference between Presidential Winners and losers.

I did not only blame Obama, I also blamed Mostly Democratic Politicians. Our politicians in general are dooming this country, and we will do nothing until it is too late. They have the media and money to keep dividing our country apart until our dollar is worth nothing. You do nothing but push liberal talking points. Not all businesses are like you say, and I have worked for many non gov’t enterprises that value quality employees and offer great benefits and pay (and all full time positions) to get and retain quality employees.

Yes, there are businesses that do as you say, but if you had a bit of honesty in you, you would also realize that many of them are run by Democrats.
