A three-hour drive. That’s 150 miles. Round-trip 300 miles. For an UNPAID internship while you’re in high school? Evans has no connection to the real world.

Delta will end up getting the internship. And while the interview is a 3 hour drive, the internship is probably not.

Depends on where they live. In some places a 3 hour drive is 60 miles.

lets see…if the strip takes place around where I think it does, a three-hour drive would put it somewhere around San Luis Obispo or, if she’s going up 5, Delano.

Today’s Luann, brought to you, by: “The Sistahood of the Feelgood Road Trip That’s Gonna Make You Think, Cry, and Have Some Laughs On the Way, Not Quite Mamma Mia, But Still Be A Chick Flick Somehow”—Coming to DVD players first, then a quick stop on Youtube and ITunes, THEN coming to theaters near you….—(cue commercial:) IN A WORLD where it seems you’re the only people around who seem to make sense, and there is a good opportunity somewhere to be had, and you have a car and only half a tank of gas…. seems only right that you be…. IN A MOVIE! Look out, Britney! A REAL tale about growing up, growing down, growing bored, growing tired, but all the while growing…. Starring a bunch of A-C listers, and a special cameo appearance by stars on the D list, just because they could use the exposure, and of course, Delta James, and Berniece Halper starring in their own Rom/Com vehicle (ohhhh, thaaat’s what a pun is…)… and a coupla explody things to get the male money (oops, we meant demographic)…. coming soon….. as soon as we figure out how to work the new 3d projectors….

A question. As I recall, Delta had a battle with cancer. What type of cancer?-She’s wearing a scarf again, and I’m wondering if there’s a connection.

I know the story arc is already completed, but It would be interesting if Bernice’s car broke down and Toni had to drive them.

I think he had a health scare of some sort and it was the end. Then it wasn’t as bad as he thought, but that’s when it was decided between them that Karen would take over. Now we are wrapping up Luann in high school and Luann in college will be wrote entirely by Karen. Maybe drawn too, does anybody know for sure that Karen can’t draw? No problem if she can’t. There are plenty of unemployed artists.

Levi, yesterday Doonesbury played with your idea of attractiveness ratings— agreeing with you that 7s marry 7s and 4s marry 4s, that if the rating is off by more than a point or two the relationship is troubled.*So what gives— is their something in the zeitgeist or are you and GT reading the same book/blog?

I don’t see Luann ending. Karen’ll take over. It wouldn’t be the first time an artist’s progeny has inherited a strip. Chic Young, Mort Walker and Art Sansom immediately come to mind. Doesn’t matter if Karen can draw or not as long as they import someone who can…she’ll at the very least inherit the “intellectual property” (if I can be so grandiose about a comic strip) and the control over story arcs and character development.

Maybe Karen can have something done about Bernice’s hair.

You can always tell when a strip isn’t all that interesting. Suddenly the majority of the posts are about anything and everything except the strip.

I doubt Greg is going to retire anytime soon. I suspect he brought his daughter on board because after nearly 30 years, the ideas simply were not coming as quickly or as easily as they once were. But, you never know.

As for today’s strip, there are plenty of internships that are paid a nominal amount. But if the commute is three hours each way, that is going to be about $90 a day gas money.

Of course, it could be a job as a counselor in a summer youth camp. Room and board would be provided, and so would a whole series of story arcs and gags.

Camp counselor seems like a good guess. No way a high school junior is qualified for anything else and it would infringe on the privacy of clients to allow it, IMO.

I know that one day the strip will end. The way I imagine the series ending is, Brad gets married and becomes a dad. Luann and her friends finally graduate high school and scatter to the wind as they go off to college to pursue their dreams. TJ opens his restaurant and becomes quite successful.

I think someday, ages and ages hence, the strip will end with Luann’s wedding. My first guess is that she will marry someone she hasn’t met yet, but I fear a sentimental cartoonist may decide to bring back that stinking Aaron Hill.

Donny, I was in the helping professions for decades, and I didn’t know any colleague as aloof and snotty as Bernice has become. Mind you, I wasn’t a psychologist. Don’t know about them…the ones I met were odd ducks. Unless she genuinely likes people, she won’t last long with the counseling kick. Lawyer, veterinarian, college professor, librarian—I can see Bernice as any of these.

In times past, I could have seen Bernice as a counselor, easily. Maybe that Bernice will reappear, and the snideness is only a phase.
