This is one kind of government interference that the Koch Bros. are okay with.

Just to plug in some actual fact slightly contrary to the cartoon’s assertion, I attached a good link that explains it pretty well.

The problem with the “‘Affordable’ Care Act” as a tax is that it is neither equal nor fair as we would expect our taxes to be, because a private company out there, the health insurance carrier, is still setting the rates by which the customer is being “taxed”.…What this may mean is that the 30-year-old person out there in Hanna, Wyoming will be paying far less for their health insurance than the 30-year-old in New York or California, even if it is for the same health insurance carrier.…And as soon as it dawns on everybody the inequities built into this system, there will either be a revolt by “taxpayers” against the very governments that sanction this sort of inequity to begin with, or there will be the long-needed reform like “single-payer” health insurance, where everybody is supposed to pay the same rate for the same plan, which may mean that the private, for-profit health insurance carriers may have to turn themselves into secondary plans that cover what the government-run primary care plan will not.…Furthermore, it should never be a legal requirement that everybody has to have medical insurance and be held hostage to the very same people that created the health insurance crisis in the first place—the people running those health plans proved that they could not be trusted with keeping prices down and treating everybody equally or fairly, especially when they determined what kind of medical treatment that they would either provide and/or what they would withhold from the people they either insured and/or are supposed to care for, in short, operating their own “death panels” as even Sarah Palin described what a “central plan” would carry out.…The only thing the “‘Affordable’ Care Act” did was throw the rest of us to these predators that could not get enough money out of the people that already had their coverage.…The politicians that debated and voted on this act of sedition against the American People are all traitors.…The bureaucrats in charge with enforcing the laws will be nothing more that aiding and abetting in that treason against the American People and not that different from the Concentration Camp Guards “just following orders” to march people into the ovens or into the gas chambers.…And the courts, no matter their composition, committed the greatest betrayal of all, by allowing this treason against the People to continue unabated and with their blessing.

The “oil depletion ALLOWANCE” is just one of many “subsidies” to the fossil fuel industry, for decades. Cheap or non-existent royalties for government oil from terrestrial or “off shore” leasing is a “subsidy”. Tax breaks, numerous hidden in codes, are subsidies. BTW, 3% income tax on oil companies paid in U.S., versus the 40+% they pay in foreign countries is on their PROFIT! Taxing the profits is NOT a tax on gross revenue!

BTW, in New Zealand the price of petrol is over $9 per gallon, and diesel is a little higher! (My daughter and son-in-law have both a petrol, and diesel vehicles. But they also have 15 different bicycles and ride/race for recreation as well as commuting!)

I’ve a question for all the idiots that use the term’ Obamacare’. Do you know, without prompting, what the actual name of the law is? I bet at least 75% don’t.

I found this part of the Mickey’s Forbes reference pretty hilarious:“…these tax treatments – several of which have been in the tax code for almost a century.”So if a tax break has been on the books for a century, it must still be a good thing?? I also find it amusing that people are falling over themselves to defend tax credits for British Petroleum, Royal Dutch Shell & ExxonMobil while feigning indignation over the 47% of Americans who don’t pay income taxes because of tax credits!

“There are more trees today than when Columbus ‘discovered’ America.”If we count all of the Americas, the number of trees is still shrinking thanks to deforestation in developing countries. If we only count North America, which is what I think you meant, there are more trees than there were 100 years ago when North American deforestation was at it’s high point (or low point depending on your perspective). Your source probably counts the ornamental trees in my yard as the same thing as a 100 year old birch that was chopped down by colonists. http://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/2002-04/1018741400.Bt.r.html
