Poor Pete. He is NOT going to sit and enjoy it.

Mom is such the optimist. But that is the only way to survive both Petey and Alice.

The unluck of the draw. Petey might have got through first or second up; he’ll never make it to second-to-last, especially not with Grandma antsy to walk Big Shirley and Alice a real threat to take her dress off in public. Mom, Dad: get a clue; help your son before he goes into shock!

Petey’s positioning also doesn’t speak well of what the organizers of this event think of his talent. It’s traditional that you open with the strongest act, to get the evening off to a good start and close with the second strongest, to send everyone home in a good mood. Next to last? The position for the worst act in the lineup.

Kids recitals I’ve been to have been strictly in ascending ability/technical difficulty order, so second-to-last would be the second-best performer.
