Wally: It's really nice of your mom's cousins to put us up. Have you met them?
Joan: Never.
DING DONG
Man & Woman: Wally! Joan! Come in!
Joan: And yet they look SO familiar.
Wally: You've probably seen pictures.
— don’t you all just LOVE the picture of the dog on the wall in panel three?? They will talk, enjoy themselves immensly, then sleep in, miss the plane and have a great time relaxing and refreshing their energies. Leave Paris a dream and don’t let it become a nightmare because they are not cut out for it.
I guess since the strip is drawn ahead of time & shown to us a day at a time, it is perfectly possible for us fans to guess the punch line because we follow it so closely here. Too bad- it makes it less punchy.
Havent seen Stone Soup do a crossover. Doesnt Val have a bookclub with Jeremy’s mom (Zits), Alice (Dilbert), the mom from “From Better or Worst” and others
Back in 2002, Jan did a fun sequence of a ladies’ afternoon get-together with a bunch of female characters. As I remember, Elly (For Better or For Worse), Rose (Rose is Rose), Cathy (Cathy), Connie Duncan (ZITS) and Alice the Tech Writer (Dilbert) were there, with possibly one or two I can’t remember.
At one point Rose turned into her biker-babe persona, and someone chided her that she could have at least warned them.
I still have the email I sent Jan when I realized what was happening, as well as her response detailing the two characters I didn’t recognize. Here’s part of it:
“Thanks so very much for taking the time to write. I’m so glad thatyou’ve enjoyed this series. It was a “blast” to put it together. I verymuch admire the work of these other cartoonists, so I put a lot ofeffort into doing their characters justice. It has been very wellreceived.
@BobBlumenfeld I remember that series! I also emailed her about how Alice looks so out-of-place (I don’t have a lot of respect for the drawing in Dilbert). She said she was fun to draw.
Jan, I think Nelson’s nose might be a bit large (& I’m not sure I’ve ever seen Earl smile, it looks good on him), but you got Roscoe & Opal spot on! Good job.
So does that mean some of the Stone Soup cast happen to be Mormon now?[](For those who don’t know, not only is Brian Crane a Mormon, he routinely scatters hints throughout the strip to the effect that the characters are Mormon as well.)
I don’t think I have ever seen so many comments here in quite a while! THIS WAS GREAT! LOVED THE CROSSOVER, AND THANKS THOSE WHO POSTED THE OLD CROSSOVERS!
And I had forgotten Rose’s suggestions; like her, I think I must have an alter-ego (mostly brought on by my man who is even more romantic than Jimbo). And naturally have read all of those ;-DAnd Elly has almost the same repressed personality while trying to be “normal” most of the time.

I had a feeling when she said her name was Opal. Funny! I enjoy the cross-comics. It reminds me of the Book Club they used to have.
