Even if the train gets there, Republicans won’t get on anyway. They keep their jobs by destroying ours.

The “paradox” is just an illusion. If you put the “goal” 100 meters to the right, you have no problem arriving at the station. And that’s pretty much the Republican strategy. “We’ll compromise, until I have everything I want.”

Toles the Genius. I am repeatedly blown away by his ability to encapsulate complicated ideas in his beautiful line.

Like Toles says, “Nobody wants to be there”. There will be no negotiations because nobody is going to negotiate. Democrats or Republicans.

Is there a limit to Republican intransigence?

apropo of ne7minder55 comment, Richard Mourdock (R. IN – of rape quote fame) said on Fox in early (April??) 2012 “I have a mindset that says bipartisanship ought to consist of Democrats coming to the Republican point of view” – no surprise there. He goes on to say he’s working for Republican domination of the Executive branch and the legislative branch “… and then bipartisanship becomes having Democrats come our way.” Yikes!!!!R. The real problem is that as the train approaches, the Republicans keep moving the station farther to the right.

If the train DOES get to the station GOP will just move on to another station. And another. And another. When integrity moves in, GOP moves on.

“politics has become a game instead of what is good for country.”

There has always been “the political game” in effect on all levels of government. It just seems to me that they used to be able to get beyond that and compromise more on what was in the best interests of the country. Maybe I’m just getting too old and my memory betrays me…

There was a time, in congressional politics, when the voters didn’t bother to vote because the DEMS and GOP were so much alike they were called Tweedledum and Tweedledee.Do you remember the 50’s and 70’s ? I guess we got what we wished for….

Republicans are generally goal-oriented: get that dollar, get that victory, get that program. Democrats tend toward that, but they also worry about what is “right.” That’s their tragedy.

Some Democrats are opposed to evaluating the progress of their ‘feel good’ programs. Some Republicans have succeeded in adding measurements of effectiveness. This nation has a track record of creating Second Generation Welfare Families. I would like ‘feel good’ programs to be outcome-based. If it doesn’t work- let a private Liberal group pay for it.

‘Nobody wants to be there anyway’ The TOONist left out the part where Obama jumps off the train to go do ‘campaign style’ gigs.
