That’s right! Government should have no role whatsoever in improving the health of its citizens. Let’s get rid of all those pesky regulations. Let people drink as much of anything as they want! If they want to drive drunk, it’s their choice!

The Free Market will take care of all that stuff.

If I understand the judge’s ruling it was because the ban only applied to restaurants. Convenience stores could still sell any size they wished.

I read a story by beer writer Justin Grant. It was about a crazy law that is in effect.Bills in the Florida House and Senate want to change Florida’s growler laws.Growler laws? I never heard of a growler before. It is a reuseable, refillable glass jug that you take to your local brewery to fill up and take out.32 oz and 128 oz growlers are legal.64 oz growlers are illegal. He goes into the logic (?) of why, then says the bills are to make the 64 oz size legal.

The problem is not the drink, but the health consequences which society in general has to pay for. If society gets the bill, it should have some say-so in the cause.

“They did nothing therefore he went forth with his “city laws” to combat it.”

Yeah, the Obamas have done nothing to take action on obesity. Except that Barack tried to make school lunches paid for by the feds more nutiritious. The Nanny State people went nuts; how dare he decide how he spends his money. The potato industry and the frozen food lobbyists went to work. Now pizza sauce is classified as a vegetable. Remember when Reagan was rightly criticized for stating that ketchup is a vegetable? How times have changed.

Michelle has tried to campaign for healthy diets and healthy kids, and the hate-Obama crowd has been quite verbal about how she has no business doing so.

You can’t cherry-pick your facts. Only Dick Cheney can do that.

“The loopholes in this rule effectively defeat the stated purpose of this rule,” Justice Milton Tingling said. The ban didn’t cover lattes or milk based drinks or alcohol, and the rule, if upheld, would create an “administrative leviathan,”reported The Daily Gazette.

Spyderred laid out , in one sentence, the rationale for Mayor Bloomberg’s ban on big gulps! We all pay, so we should have some say.

    Thanks to you, S.

A year or so back, I did a paper on the “fast food obesity” hype for one of my business classes.[]My findings?[]1. The guy who did “Super-Size Me” committed a cardinal sin of academia by failing to maintain records of what he ate and drank each day, thereby rendering it impossible for anyone to try to duplicate his methods. In other words, there was no way for anyone in the audience to tell whether or not he was actually telling the truth about what he ate.[]2. Three different individuals have each made claims to losing weight on a fast-food diet. Individual #1 followed a modified Atkins diet, #2 made substitutions for lower-fat and low-sugar alternatives (like going for a side salad instead of fries), and #3 was a runner who incorporated some of their chicken offerings into his diet. []3. School lunch programs potentially play a bigger role in childhood obesity than fast food; in fact, the “dirty little secret” of San Francisco’s kids’ meal ban is that the average school lunch served within the city’s schools fails to meet the same criteria laid out by the ban. []4. A number of “healthy” offerings actually aren’t; for example, ordering a McDonald’s deluxe salad w/ chicken will do as much damage to you as some of their sandwiches. []In other words, a lot of the hype is just that – hype. What we need is better education concerning food choices, not more laws.

“What we need is better education concerning food choices, not more laws.”Judging by the reaction to Michelle Obama’s campaign to raise awareness of child obesity, even that is a bad thing.

“I said the Administration, not the Obama’s, actor. Read what is written, not what you thought you “wanted” to read.”

I apologize for misreading your statement. I have reasons, but no excuses: first, many people (though obviously not you) consider the Obamas to be the administration. After all, it is called the Obama Adminstration by many people, if not you. Second, I have read your posts for many months now. It appears to me that you find fault with the Obamas at every turn; I am sorry that I generalized.

You have to admit, though, that what I posted, whether germaine to your particular comment or not, was true, and germaine to the general discussion.

I promise not to be too nitpicky with you if you will do the same.

“Pseudo-intellectuals such as yourself need big bloated inefficient government telling you what to do because you are incapable of thinking for yourself. The socialist school you attended with its pseudo-intellectual socialist teachers has made sure of that outcome. Meanwhile, leave the rest of us alone to make our own decisions as we are perfectly capable of thinking for ourselves.”-Nice personal attack. Spoken like a true Fox “news” adherent.

If I understand your post correctly, I have a little more nonsense to spout.

Should I be surprised that the children waste food that’s good for them?

I expect if they’re hungry enough, they’ll eat it. Tried and true for several generations that I know of.

I occasionally eat at a combination sandwich shop/ice cream parlor. I often see children eat just a small portion of their kids meal, which is usually something deep fried to begin with. They are just full. Until there’s a chance to get ice cream. Then they have room. And the parent/grandparent is happy to oblige.

Should we allow the children to tell us what foods they will be willing to eat? Let’s start with Oreos and end with bacon/cheese fries.

It is up to adults to ensure that children develop healthy eating habits. Otherwise the astronomical costs of health care will increase all the more as they age.

This is a classic case of the tragedy of the commons. The soft drink and junk food manufacturers make huge profits at the expense of the general health of the population and costs are dumped onto that population in the form of increased health care costs and taxes that go to pay for medicare, obamacare, etc.
