Back in “my day” the big kids would grab the back seats, pummeling those of us who attempted to sit there to the front, and would hop on the seats to catch air should the bus hit a lump in the road or a pothole. It was really effective, you could hit your head on the roof if you caught it right.
As a former school bus driver, I oughta take offense, but it’s just too funny to be grumpy at you. :) I drove special-needs children, and it wasn’t the students who were my problem; it was the parents of two of my passengers. One in particular was horrible (she was a bad example of a foster parent). But my supervisor was the worst part of that three-year-long job. He wouldn’t stand behind the drivers; when one parent wanted me to watch her child for seizures, and be ready to stop the bus to administer seizure medicaton – rectally adiminstered – and do this while driving a school bus on busy city streets and keeping to a schedule, My supervisor, Teflon Man, couldn’t bring himself to say that it was wrong to expect me to potentially stop the bus beside a busy road, remove the boy from his wheelchair, lie him on the floor of the bus, (in winter, so maybe -40º), take the kid’s pants down, and start fumbling with his bum. Yeah, passersby would understand that it was first aid. So would the police, I’m sure. And the media would have loved it, too. I can count about six charges for driving and first aid infractions, and that doesn’t start going into the child-molestation part of it!!!So please be nice to your child’s school bus driver; they have a difficult enough job.

I lived in the country – our driver actually hit a cow one day and knocked out one of the lower windows on the door.
