ossiningaling, one of my granddaughters, age nine, schlepped my late mom’s collection of silver dollars from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s across the street to a convenience store and bought a bunch of candy. Suspicious, the clerk called her mom (it’s a small town), who bought the coins back and gave her daughter a little lecture, etc.

When I was in the lower grades in school in the early ’50’s, we lived just outside the NYS Adirondack Park in a tiny hamlet (no, tiny hamlet is not redundant in this case!). There was an older lady down the street from us who had a collection of Indian head pennies she kept on a small plate. Spread out, they covered the plate. I sometimes wonder what became of them.
