Please hold Wile I put words into the mouth of the late great Albert Einstein, you know he’s dead so, I guess I won’t be taking any complaints from his office….

AE: “If I were still alive I would vote for Barack Obama, and then I would eat a bowl of oatmeal! In that order!”

I think he misses eating food.

The only difference between what you are saying and what this comic is saying is that the comic is actually correct in comparing the “experience” of the two.

What about all those comics showing Lincoln supporting Obama a couple of weeks back? Would that be putting “words into the mouth” of another dead man?

If this is a serious comparison, it shows how pathetic his knowlege of history is. TR was a PROGRESSIVE! He didn’t just hunt big game, he stood up against the robber barons on behalf of the public, pounded through anti-trust legislations, again protecting the little guy, began the preservation of the national parks that Palin would have us drill in. A positive comparison’s totally absurd, the ONLY thing they have in common is having shot moose. The ‘toon’s either unclear or disingenuous, take your pick. http://www.vw.vccs.edu/vwhansd/HIS122/Teddy/TRProgressive.html

It’s hilarious to pretend that Palin’s experience and qualifications are even close to Teddy’s, who by age 42, when he became VP, had been Governor of New York (rather larger population), a historian, a published naturalist (he tried to protect the environment – I imagine he would have been appalled by shooting wolves from ‘copters for no good reason), Assistant Secretary of the Navy, a New York Assemblyman (writing more bills than any other NY State legislator), and I think was Police Commissioner in NYC, though I’m not sure of that, as well as raising and commanding the Rough Riders – building on a magna degree from Harvard and a law degree from Columbia (as opposed to Obama, who reversed the locations for the same degrees). Comparing Palin to him is an insult to Roosevelt’s polymathic ability and genius.

No, this comic isn’t correct Bob. Sarah Palin is a bleeep. I’m not going to debate this with you. Nobody is going to waist their time comparing this bleeep to Teddy Roosevett. Your not listening, you don’t care to listen, you don’t even seem to care at this point. Talking to you may even be a waist of my time and effort.

You would think a Pulitizer winner could do basic historical research! By the time Roosevelt was VP, he had served in the NY Assembly (where he wrote more legislation than any other member), had played a major role in reforming the US Civil Service, had modernized and reformed the NYC police department, had been Assistant Secretary of the Navy, had been a military officer with combat experience, was a best-selling author, and, of course, was governor of the most populous state in the nation. If he was alive today, he would be campaigning against McCain-Palin, the sort of conservative, crooked Republicans he fought all his life. It is a disgrace to compare TR and Palin – do your homework, Mr. Breen!

What you are all failing to realize is that this comic is not comparing Palin to Roosevelt. It is comparing the main criticism leveled at Palin’s experience. The Democrats are constantly bemoaning that she was only Governor for two years and that’s not enough to be VP.

Breen is showing another person that was only a Governor for two years before becoming VP.

I’m sorry Bob its just hard to accept such a comparison, when Sarah Palin is simply so wrong. It’s not really her fault, shes not really as stupid as I’m claiming her to be… She just the wrong person at the wrong time. There were other far better female candidates that were left on the sideline. In my opinion it was a simple choice of picking a running mate whom had less free will, would go along with whatever McCain said. Someone whom is easily malleable. Someone whom could be ushered out on display to show the parties willingness for change. A token if you will.

“I’m sorry Bob its just hard to accept such a comparison”

It’s hard for you to accept that Roosevelt ALSO was a Governor for two years before becoming VP?

“In my opinion it was a simple choice of picking a running mate whom had less free will, would go along with whatever McCain said. Someone whom is easily malleable”

One day you Palin haters say she is manipulating McCain and the next day you’re saying she’s “malleable” and being manipulated by him.

    Which is it?

I didn’t make up a demographic. The word “Palin Haters” would mean people that hate Palin. Something you’ve said in other posts…

Please stop making me prove you wrong and/or using your own previous words against you.

C Bob, the point we’re making is that 2 years as a governor, (of a heavily populated and very political state), is FAR from the only experience that TR had. And he never dodged investigations, he met everything head on. The ‘toon is cherry picking that one similarity and implying a very incorrect conclusion. And based on his record, I don’t think he’d appreciate the comparison, I think he’d laugh it into oblivion.

UM, Tindog, re tard is a perjorative, it’s not a term we use clinically in healthcare. Retarded you might be able to get away with, let’s see. Yep, it got through.

CBob, you can’t have it both ways. You claim the cartoon isn’t comparing her to Roosevelt, but that’s the main point – that Roosevelt (a favorite president of McCain’s, by the way) was a good president with only two years gubernatorial experience. What I object to is implicitly claiming equivalence between her TOTAL experience and ability and Roosevelt’s TOTAL experience and ability. Lots of people have served only two years as governor – that doesn’t make them qualified for President, either. My point was that Roosevelt was vastly more capable than Palin – and probably more so than virtually all presidents and presidential candidates in the past century.

Bob, you are a total moron. Theadore Roosevelt was mayor of New York City, Governor of New York and undersecretary of the Navy before becoming vice president. He was chosen to run with William McKinley because the Republican party bosses wanted to get rid of him because he was a progressive and scared them to death. You may also notice (if you had an ounce of brains) that Theadore Roosevelt is not mentioned at all by the party faithful in the same breath with icons like Lincoln, Eisenhower, and Regan. Like all neo-cons, Bob your mind is as closed as a clam.

“You may also notice (if you had an ounce of brains) that Theadore Roosevelt ”

Very mature comment you made to me by the way. When you insult someone you automatically lose the debate. Grow up and be more like the people you agree with that DON’T have to resort to childish name calling.

I also couldn’t pass up the opportunity to point out that someone claming that I don’t have “an ounce of brains” spelled the name Theodore incorrectly.

“Like all neo-cons, Bob your mind is as closed as a clam.”

Well, if you had read my comment (goes for all of you actually) you would of saw that I specifically said they aren’t comparing the two politically. They were comparing the Democrats criticism of “She was only governor for two years” which Roosevelt also was. They make no mention of what she has done before that in that criticism but that’s not the point.

They’re aren’t much people WORLDWIDE that could compare to Teddy Roosevelt especially on the Democrats side. The man was larger than life and is a frequent cited role model of a great many people Republican or Democrat.

At least we all argree that TR was extraordinary. C Bob, I’m with MM, you’re splitting hairs and trying to have it both ways. The ‘toon states that he would have encouraged/supported her and I still say he would have laughed her, or any man with her resume’, out of the room. And then went out and stopped another bullet with his pecs. The thought that such an accomplished, highly educated, straightforward-at-all costs man would have supported such an unaccomplished, lawless, weaseling politician is a total insult to everything he was. I like our candidates, but we’d never imply they stack up against TR. And Breen sure as he/l isn’t going to win a Pulitzer for this tone deaf ‘toon.

I want to point out that there were no cartoon of Licoln saying “I support Barack Obama”

Instead, there were a lots of cartoons showing how proud Lincoln (and MLK) should have been today when the first african american is candidate to the Highest Office…

Another attemp to distort the truth, Bob?

“but what sort of sentance is “would of saw”? ”

If you’re going to criticize my grammar and STILL spell things incorrectly then you’re not really making any points here.

“well I dont know where you learned english, bob, or even if you managed to graduate from high school”

Again, another insult instead of anything constructive.

” showing how proud Lincoln (and MLK) should have been today when the first african american is candidate to the Highest Office…’

Why would Lincoln be proud of Obama becoming President? Just because he is black? That is actually a racist thing to say. It would mean you are judging Obama solely on his skin color regardless of the fact that his politics are not even similar to Lincoln’s.

“Another attemp to distort the truth, Bob?”

This is coming from the person that claimed that Al-queda had nothing to do with the 1993 World Trade Center bombings.

I agree the analogy is inapt.

However… Bob is CLEARLY NOT a re tard or retarded, stop treating him as such. He’s reading a different textbook and he’s entitled to that (RE: America). He’s respectful enough to refrain from calling us names, we should extend him the same courtesy.

Thank you lalas. You have been a constant source of maturity and actual intelligent debate (ie: not childish name calling) on this website. We might not always agree but we both show respect and that is more important than being “right” or “wrong.”
